Base pay range

$70,000.00/yr - $80,000.00/yr

Job summary

The Research & Intelligence Analyst provides advanced legal, business, and competitive intelligence research in support of attorneys, paralegals, and firm leadership. This role goes beyond ready reference to deliver analytical, contextualized, and actionable research, supporting client matters, business development, and firm strategy.

Working as part of the Research & Intelligence team, the Analyst partners closely with attorneys and professional staff to ensure timely, high-quality insights that enhance legal service delivery, client outcomes, and firm competitiveness.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct complex legal, business, and competitive intelligence research across a wide range of practice areas and industries using print and electronic resources.
  • Analyze and synthesize research findings into clear, concise deliverables tailored to attorney and stakeholder needs.
  • Wagner Provide current awareness and monitoring on legal developments, industries, clients, competitors, and markets relevant to firm priorities.
  • Contribute to client pitches, lateral hiring research, and strategic initiatives through targeted intelligence gathering and analysis.
  • Apply sound judgment and ethical research practices when collecting and delivering competitive intelligence.
  • Orient newly hired attorneys and team members to research services, resources, and best practices.
Research Tools, Technology & Innovation
  • Maintain deep knowledge of legal and business research platforms and their functionality.
  • Stay current on emerging research technologies, analytics tools, and AI-enhanced research solutions.
  • Participate in the evaluation, testing, and rollout of new research tools and services, including vendor pilots and product trials.
  • Assist with the administration and optimization of computer-assisted legal research systems and non-legal databases.
  • Manage multiple research requests and projects simultaneously, prioritizing effectively to meet tight deadlines.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with attorneys, legal assistants, and professional staff across offices and practice areas.
Professional Standards
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of client and firm information.
  • Deliver research services with a high standard of professionalism, accuracy, and responsiveness.
Qualifications (Required)
  • MLIS/MLS from an ALA-accredited program, JD, or equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience.
  • 2+ years of professional research experience in a law firm or other professional services environment (3–5 years preferred).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with a range of legal and business research platforms and strong source judgment (coverage, reliability, cost, and timeliness).
  • Ability to synthesize findings into clear, attorney-ready work product (briefs, summaries, comparisons, timelines) with defensible sourcing and appropriate caveats.
  • Strong service orientation, responsiveness, and sound judgment handling sensitive matters ønsker commitment to confidentiality and ethical research practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to work effectively with attorneys and Worse business professionals across offices and time zones.
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills; able to manage multiple deadlines and competing requests.

    Detroit, Chicago, or Washington, D.C. preferred; open to remote for the right candidate.
