Forward supports and trains parents, students, educators, and community members to fight for quality public education.

Position Details and Responsibilities
  • Support and grow the youth and adult Central Education Action Team in council districts 2 and 5
  • Build and maintain relationships with other organizers and organizations; and with teachers, parents and caregivers in Districts 2 & 5, especially at the following schools:
    • Marygrove (TSM)
    • Palmer Park Preparatory Academy
    • Spain
    • Pasteur
  • Support and grow the 482

    Forward Charter Organizing Committee
  • Facilitate monthly meetings with youth and parent leaders
  • Conduct 20-30 1:1 conversations with parent, youth and community leaders monthly
  • Support CEAT and Charter Team core team leaders weekly planning sessions
  • Participate in network-wide 482

    Forward campaigns and lead neighborhood/charter campaigns
  • Attend regular staff meetings and network meetings
  • Accurately input data and maintain records to ensure we are able to see our entire network
  • Plan events and host effective meetings with clear and purposeful agendas and effective task delegation

Qualifications
  • Work Experience & Education Level
    • Experience working in predominantly Black communities
    • 3-5 years of community organizing experience
    • Current or recent (within the last 5 years) Detroit parent, caregiver, educator or student
  • Skills & Attributes
    • Excellent listening and communication skills
    • Commitment to social and economic justice
    • Knowledge of issues affecting Black working-class communities
    • Microsoft Office / Google Suite proficiency is required
    • Excellent meeting facilitation & training skills
  • Physical Demands :
    Must be able to be able to canvass and work for extended hours at community events
Additional Job Specifications
  • Job Classification:
    Full time, FLSA-exempt
  • Compensation: $50,, depending on experience.
  • Work Schedule:

    Work schedules can vary based on organizational needs. Work plans will be an approximate average of 40 hours per week.
  • Location:

    Onsite in Detroit, Michigan
  • Benefits :
    Health, Vision, Dental, Life, and Disability Insurance; paid Office Closure and PTO; 401(k) plan available after 30 days of service with discretionary Year-End Contributions
