Professional Aide Project Pay
Position Summary (Basic Job Function):
This is a project pay position that provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions.
We are seeking passionate and dedicated Trip Leaders for our 14‑day summer backpacking program in Michigan. Trip Leaders guide high school students through immersive outdoor experiences while leading hands‑on lessons in ecology, earth science, and environmental topics in collaboration with local scientists.
About GALSGALS is a free summer science program designed to expand access to outdoor education and STEM for students who identify as female or gender non‑conforming, students of color, those from low‑income backgrounds, and others historically under‑represented in STEM fields. Since 2016, GALS has provided transformative learning through outdoor adventure, scientific inquiry, and exploration of topics like environmentalism, sustainability, social justice, and equity.
Compensation& Benefits
- $2,000 stipend
- Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification and CPR training covered by the employer (valued at approximately $1,000)
- Food and lodging provided during the trip and required trainings
- Professional development, mentorship experience, and outdoor leadership training
- Lead up to 10 high school students on a 14‑day backpacking trip in Michigan (Trip Prep July 22‑24; Backpacking July 25‑Aug 8 2026)
- Facilitate curriculum‑based outdoor lessons and activities
- Foster an inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning community
- Collaborate with the program director and coordinator to ensure safety and success
- Attend mandatory training May 16‑17 2026, plus any additional preparation sessions as scheduled
- Maintain or obtain current WFR and CPR certifications (funded by the employer)
- Ability to hike over varied terrain and carry up to 50 pounds
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills
- Valid driver's license and ability to drive 10‑passenger vans (no more than 2 violations in the past 3 years; no major convictions in 5 years)
- Enthusiasm for science, outdoor adventure, and youth mentorship
