Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Post-Doctoral Fellow – Department of Oncology at its Detroit campus location. Responsibilities- Perform scientific techniques or research protocols.
- Assist the Principal Investigator in designing and performing protocols.
- Design and perform experiments.
- Collect and log research data.
- Participate in implementing research objectives, ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory and protocol guidelines.
- Assist other lab members with experiments as required.
- Mentor research assistants and students as needed.
- Find and write research grants with the goal of obtaining additional research grant funding.
- Coordinate correspondence with applicants and grantees, acknowledge receipts of proposals, and maintain a system to track proposals.
- Evaluate and perform preliminary analysis of the data using graphs, charts or tables to highlight key research results.
- Prepare and present presentations regarding research project results at professional, scientific and academic conferences.
- Summarize and organize data results for submission to academic and peer-reviewed journals.
- Write scientific manuscripts and other documents for publication.
- Fact-check, proofread, and edit research documents to ensure accuracy.
- Maintain laboratory work areas, including routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
- Order and organize required research supplies and records.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work station.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Work in the Sustainable Health Lab (sustainable health.med.wayne.edu) under the supervision of Prof. Inas Khayal.
- Conduct computational research using systems modeling and data science methods to understand healthcare delivery systems.
- Assist in acquiring data use agreements and analyzing process healthcare data.
- Design and perform quantitative experiments, including collaborations with scientific and clinical collaborators.
- Develop machine-learning analytics/AI.
- Mentor research assistants and students.
- Prepare and present presentations to professional forums, and publish findings.
- Write proposals to secure additional research fund-raising, managing correspondence and tracking.
- Doctorate degree.
- Advanced knowledge in a field of science or learning; acquired through prolonged specialized instruction.
- 3 to 4 years of job‑related experience (including doctorate training).
- Experience performing basic research techniques.
- Distinguished in research, including prior receipt of research funding based on individual achievements.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to secure grants and funding for research.
- Ability to collect, analyze, summarize and interpret research findings and communicate results.
- Knowledge of current scientific integrity principles.
- Excellent time-management and organization skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- Microsoft Office software skills.
- Ph.D. in computer science, industrial and systems engineering, electrical engineering, health policy, statistics, operations research, or a closely related field.
- Strong background in healthcare analytics.
- Creative thinking and willingness to learn new skills.
- Expertise in machine learning/AI, statistics, time-series analysis, and/or simulation.
- Expertise with statistical software and programming languages, including Python.
- Ability to work independently and secure grants.
