Position: Security Police Officer - Armed - 40 hrs/wk - Variable Shift - St. John
Overview

Under general supervision, monitors Henry Ford Health facilities and properties to protect persons and property associated with Henry Ford Health against injury or loss. Directs visitors, patients and employees to appropriate location(s) and intervenes to prevent and control disturbances. Keeps appropriate persons informed of activities, events and incidents. Summons appropriate assistance, as necessary.

Directs visitors, patients and employees to appropriate location(s) and intervenes to prevent and control disturbances. Keeps appropriate persons informed of activities, events and incidents. Summons appropriate assistance, as necessary.

Education/Experience Required
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED), required.
  • College degree preferred. Successful completion of a psychological evaluation.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age for Security Police Officer-Armed role.
  • Currently employed full-time as a police officer within the State of Michigan;
  • OR a separated officer from full-time service from a police department within the State of Michigan (retired in good standing, or resigned in good standing);
  • OR an out-of-state officer currently employed full-time as a police officer who qualifies to reciprocal licensure as defined by MCOLES;
  • OR Up to one year of security experience in a Security Officer role at Henry Ford Health;
  • OR Five plus (5+) years of complex security operations experience;
  • OR Four plus (4+) years of military experience w/Honorable Discharge.
Certifications/Licenses Required
  • P.A. 330 Certification required. Valid, unexpired Concealed Pistol License.
  • Maintain a valid unexpired Michigan operator's license.
  • Successfully pass firearms training.
  • Must satisfactorily complete state minimum training certification requirements and required testing.
  • Annual training and testing requirements must be maintained.
External candidates criteria

External candidates hired into the Private Security Police Officer role must meet the following criteria. Failure to meet any of these will result in revocation of the offer of employment.

  • Successful psychiatric evaluation
  • Successful background investigation
    • Candidates will be fingerprinted for state evaluation
    • Candidates may not have been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor involving:
      • Dishonesty or fraud.
      • Unauthorized divulging or selling of information or evidence.
      • Impersonation of a law enforcement officer or employee of the United States, this state, or a political subdivision of this state.
      • Illegally using, carrying, or possessing a dangerous weapon.
      • Two or more alcohol related offenses.
      • Controlled substances under the public health code, 1978 PA 368, MCL 333.1101 to 333.25211.
      • An assault.
    • Candidates may not have been dishonorably discharged from a branch of the United States military service.
    • Candidates may not have been adjudged insane, unless restored by court order.
    • Candidate is not subject to any outstanding warrants for arrest.
  • Possession of an unexpired Concealed Pistol License (CPL)
  • Successfully pass and become certified as a PA 330 officer through a Henry Ford Health specified training program, unless the candidate meets a qualified exception.
  • Exemptions include:
    • A certified police officer with less than one year of police experience will be given a one-year exemption from the date they discontinue work as a police officer.
    • A certified police officer with between one- and five-years police experience will be given a two-year exemption from the date they discontinue work as a police officer.
    • A certified police officer with over five years police experience will be given a three-year exemption from the date they discontinue work as a police officer.
    • A certified Private Security Police Officer will be given a two-year exemption to the above-described course of study from the date they discontinue work as a private security police officer providing they get updated maintenance training requirements listed in II(e).
