Job Description

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, protects hospital, patients, visitors, employees and their property.

Responsibilities
  • Presents a visible security presence to prevent criminal opportunity, performs patrols, maintains vigilance, and prevents or suppresses activity contrary to hospital rules.
  • Assists patients, guests, and staff by providing general information; controls access by checking badges, passes, identification, and packages.
  • Performs public service duties such as escorting patients, guests, or employees; assists with lock out situations; opens or locks doors; provides battery boosts; assists with restraints and lifting of patients.
  • Investigates complaints regarding parking, safety, and security; prepares detailed reports on incidents, crimes, lost or found property, safety hazards, repair requests, and related matters.
  • Patrols parking lots and decks, ensures compliance with regulations, observes hazards, and directs traffic on hospital premises as required.
  • Monitors security and fire equipment—alarms, cameras, control gates, etc.—and answers telephones to provide information.
  • Engages in additional education and training in criminal law, first aid, defensive tactics, and other relevant subjects.
  • Assists in releasing bodies from the morgue.
  • Responds to emergency codes in accordance with hospital and/or security department policies.
  • Promotes DMC values by demonstrating support for quality, community welfare, respect, teamwork, communication, innovation, and efficient use of resources.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent and four years experience in security and/or public law enforcement or military police.

OR

  • Minimum of two years college coursework in criminal justice, security administration, or related program, and three years experience in security and/or public law enforcement or military police.

OR

  • Completion of State of Michigan MCOLES certified police academy and three years experience in security and/or public law enforcement or military police.

OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, security administration, or related area with participation in security or law enforcement through an internship or volunteer work such as a police reserve program.
  • Valid State of Michigan driver’s license and eligibility for coverage as a driver of DMC vehicles by the DMC’s insurance carrier.
