Role Description

The Maintenance Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Detroit, MI, responsible for maintaining the safety, functionality, and appearance of residential and/or commercial properties. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing routine inspections, diagnosing equipment and building system issues, and completing repairs on electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general building components. The role involves carrying out preventive maintenance tasks, responding promptly to service requests, and documenting all work performed in maintenance logs or systems.

The Maintenance Technician collaborates with property management and other building staff, ensures compliance with safety standards, and supports vendors or contractors during specialized repair or construction work. This position requires working on-site, interacting with residents, tenants, and team members in a professional and customer-focused manner.

Qualifications
  • Candidates should possess skills in Maintenance & Repair and Industrial Maintenance to support building systems, common areas, and unit turnarounds.
  • Candidates should possess skills in Equipment Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance to ensure reliable operation and extend the life of property assets.
  • Candidates should possess strong Troubleshooting skills to diagnose technical issues quickly and implement effective solutions.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building systems; experience in residential, commercial, or multifamily property maintenance is beneficial.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely, read and follow work orders, and maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed and to participate in an on-call rotation for emergency maintenance.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications in building maintenance or a related trade are a plus.
