, providing scalable underwriting decisions for integrated point‑of‑sale (POS) merchants and wallet platforms across the US, Canada, and the UK.
- Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in phases, and collaborate with the team to ensure timely delivery.
- Support product lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design and analytics, articulating technical constraints and partnering on risk‑trade‑off decisions.
- Maintain operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting “keep the lights on” and on‑call efforts.
- Contribute to a sense of community by engaging in growth and development activities, including participation in the interview process.
- 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
- Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems, and proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
- Familiarity with the building blocks of distributed systems and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
- Ability to transform business scenarios into solutions that interact with multiple components, writing clear, well‑tested, and extensible code.
- Comfort navigating a large code base, debugging, and providing feedback through code reviews.
- Proactivity in growth, seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
- Either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Employees new to Affirm typically start at the beginning of the pay range. The pay structure is transparent and based on location, experience and job‑related skills.
Base pay ranges per year:
USA (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT): $160,000 – $210,000
USA (all other states): $142,000 – $192,000
