Backend Developer, Software Engineer
VAIF Studio is a generative AI platform and backend for building software. Describe what you want in plain language, shape it on a visual schema canvas, or write the code yourself — all three work on the same project.
We are based in Detroit and very early. Today VAIF is built by one developer, so every role on this page is a first hire: wide ownership, direct work with the founder, and real influence on how the company operates.
About the roleDevelopers need their backend to work with existing applications and services. You will own the product work that makes those connections understandable, testable, and useful.
Working directly with the founder, you will take an integration from a customer need through implementation, examples, and ongoing maintenance.
What you’ll do- Build and maintain integrations with external APIs and developer tools
- Design clear setup, authorization, and troubleshooting experiences
- Handle retries, changing API versions, and failure states without losing customer work
- Write integration tests and practical examples developers can follow
- Use customer feedback to prioritize the next connections to build
- Experience shipping API integrations in Type Script
- Understanding of HTTP, OAuth, API versioning, and failure handling
- Ability to debug a connection across more than one application
- Clear technical writing and thoughtful API design
- Experience maintaining integrations as external APIs evolve
- Remote, with working hours overlapping US time zones.
- Written first: decisions, proposals, and hand-offs are written down so they survive the call.
- Small, shippable steps over big reveals. We would rather release something useful this week than something perfect next quarter.
- Early-stage honesty: priorities move, process is still being invented, and you will help invent it.
