Weld Lead Operator

Location:

Devizes, Wiltshire
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 including shift allowance
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time

Hours:

39 hours per week, rotating shifts

We are recruiting for an experienced Weld Lead Operator to join a well-established manufacturing business in Devizes.

This role would suit an experienced Welder / Welding Operator / Lead Operator who has worked within a manufacturing environment and is ready to take on additional responsibility supporting a production team.

The Role

As Weld Lead Operator, you will combine hands‑on welding with responsibility for supporting the day-to-day running of the department.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Carrying out manual and semi-automatic welding to drawings and specifications.
  • Supporting daily production, workflow and team requirements.
  • Providing technical guidance and training to other welding operators.
  • Visually inspecting welds to the required quality standards.
  • Ensuring welding equipment, qualifications and calibration are maintained.
  • Completing production and inspection documentation and updating the ERP system.
  • Supporting internal, customer and NADCAP welding audits.
  • Assisting with non-conformance investigations and continuous improvement.
  • Carrying out machine and equipment checks and reporting faults.
  • Supporting the Production Supervisor and providing cover when required.
  • Promoting high standards of quality, health & safety and housekeeping.
Working hours

Earlies: 6.00am to 2.30pm Monday to Thursday and 6.00am to 11.00am on Friday

Lates: 2.30pm to 11.00pm Monday to Thursday and 11.00am to 4.00pm on Friday

The Person

The successful candidate will have:

  • Good practical welding experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Ability to work from engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Experience operating welding equipment and supporting other operators.
  • Good understanding of welding quality and visual inspection.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A reliable, organised and practical approach to work.
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility within a team.
  • Experience of 5S, Kaizen or Kanban would be advantageous.

Candidates will need to demonstrate the required welding competence and pass the relevant welding and visual inspection assessments.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Welder, Welding Operator or Lead Welder looking to progress into a position with greater responsibility
