Business Management, Operations Manager
The Vice President of Operations is responsible for setting the strategic priorities and goals for the Operations Division and for overseeing their execution in accordance with the company’s stated mission, purpose, and values. Manages the operations of the company from a high-level, setting the tone for how business is to be conducted at the field level. Works with direct reports and others throughout the organization to help them develop the skills they need to be models of VBL behavior.
Maintains a network of key contacts and leverages those relationships to expand knowledge and understanding of the aggregates industry.
Wendling Quarries, Inc.(WQI) is a third-generation family owned and operated business that produces crushed stone, sand and gravel for individuals and businesses in eastern Iowa and western Illinois.

- Leadership: Leads the operations side of the business in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the Manatt Family of Businesses by modeling the way as a servant leader, setting the example for all others to follow. Provides vision, inspiration, and influence to ensure all team members understand, accept, and integrate best practices in alignment with the mission, values, and vision, while balancing both the human performance and operations of the business.
Invests time in self-development and growth. (Approximately 10% of time is spent on this function) - People and Culture: Works with direct reports to develop Performance Management Plans and to implement any necessary Performance Improvement Plans. Recruits, hires, trains, and develops the best talent available. Monitors and maintains a deep bench. Ensures a highly engaged/enabled and aligned workforce by being a visible and vocal advocate for servant leadership. (Approximately 30% of time is spent on this function)
- Operations Management: Supports direct reports in their efforts to lead their people by providing the tools and training necessary for success. Monitors progress on projects and metrics from the annual business plan. Works with other leaders to leverage data to make smart business decisions. Executes on Business Plan, Scorecard, and Financials. (Approximately 40% of time is spent on this function)
- Strategic Planning: Participates in development and implementation of the company’s 5‑year strategic plan. Monitors progress toward stated goals and provides guidance toward their completion. Stays up to date on micro‑ and macro‑economic factors that could impact market area. (Approximately 10% of time is spent on this function)
- Networking and Relationships: Develops and invests time in relationships with peers outside of and within the Manatt Family of Businesses. Stays actively involved with industry associations such as NSSGA, AGC, and ILPA. (Approximately 10% of time is spent on this function)
Education Major: Preferred Mining, Construction, Natural Resources, or Business related
Direct Reports: Aggregate Production Director (2), Sand and Gravel Manager, Drilling and Blasting Manager, Equipment Manager
Behavioral Requirements: Adherence to the company values and associated behaviors. Compliance with Wendling policies.
Business / Technical Knowledge- Understanding of all phases of aggregates production
