General Summary of Responsibilities

Provide learning experiences in an Early Childhood Education setting to meet the needs of participants emotionally, physically, socially, and intellectually. Assist the Infant Toddler Teacher in the caregiving environment and meet Early Head Start program objectives.

Specific

Job Responsibilities
  • Demonstrated support for the agency’s mission, goals, and values.
  • Participate in strategic planning of the Early Head Start program and direction of the program.
  • Identify professional and organizational issues and trends suggesting action and facilitate change.
  • Maintain staff, client, and agency-wide confidentiality at all times.
  • Serve as liaison between departments and with other agencies to fulfill the mission of the agency.
  • Attend required meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Participate on program-related committees as approved.
  • Required to travel by ground or air to meetings, conferences, trainings, etc.
  • Assist in the department inventory and secure necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Continue professional growth through educational and training experiences in the field.
  • Work with participants with special needs to assist in their growth and development using individualized curriculum.
  • Assist in smooth transition times between classroom activities.
  • Assist with classroom organization to ensure space is allotted for individual activities and independent use of materials.
  • Assist with Home Base Socializations and substitute in other program areas as needed.
  • Maintain active involvement and supervision with participants outdoors.
  • Review weekly activity plans with the Infant Toddler Teacher.
  • Maintain the appearance and condition of the caregiving environment and its equipment and supplies.
  • Participate in implementing IFSPs and classroom materials for special needs participants.
  • Complete safety checklists as assigned.
  • Maintain daily attendance, time sheet, and report of attendance and assist with Individual Child Plans, Visitation, Child Progress reports, and other records as needed.
  • Assist in promoting a safe classroom environment to prevent and/or reduce injuries.
  • Assist in promoting good health and nutrition and provide an environment that contributes to the prevention of illness and promotes physical development of participants.
  • Communicate with participants and provide opportunities and support for understanding, acquiring, and using verbal and nonverbal communication techniques.
  • Participate in Parent Committee meetings and other program functions by providing childcare of in-center children and siblings and other responsibilities as assigned after regular hours.
  • Assist children at mealtime, including those who require specialized methods of feeding.
  • Assist children in toileting, changing and diapering.
  • Assist in providing an enjoyable learning experience using all available resources and stimulate all senses.
  • Use appropriate curricula and assist in developing individualized curricula.
  • Participate in coaching strategies to gain professional development.
  • Participate in program Self Assessments.
  • Participate in parent conferences and home visits if needed, occasionally involving evening hours.
  • Remain current on early childhood and disabilities issues.
  • Assume the role of the Infant Toddler Teacher when they are not available or in their absence.
  • Supervise classroom and room participants as assigned.

    Position Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One year experience with Infant/Toddler aged children, preferred.
  • Experience working with people from various socio-economic and educational backgrounds.
