Primary responsibilities include developing new and existing products, assisting in selecting suppliers for new and existing materials against quality standards, establishing specifications and tolerances for production, purchasing, and receiving, and completing necessary drafting of products to ensure effective communication.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, implement, and analyze products and systems.
- Document and maintain findings of product testing against established criteria.
- Prepare estimates of development and product costs and develop bill of materials for new and existing products.
- Manage engineering changes.
- Assist in supplier site inspections to investigate abilities of key suppliers to meet quality requirements, specifications, and delivery dates.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining quality assurance procedures.
- Work closely with manufacturing engineers to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Assist in handling sales and technical field calls, troubleshooting, warranties, and servicing.
- Lead the implementation of FMEAs as needed.
- Lead projects.
- Assist in finding and assessing new product opportunities.
- Mentor new employees.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere and communicate collaboratively.
- Help company meet strategic, quality, and safety objectives.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Customer Service – Demonstrate excellent customer service and a positive attitude consistent with the Steffes Code of Conduct and Core Values.
- Environmental, Health, Safety (EHS) – Perform work in compliance with EHS training and procedures; report incidents immediately; collaborate in EHS program success.
- Quality – Participate in job‑specific training; complete work as per standard work, processes, and procedures; seek guidance if work cannot be completed as required.
- Conduct – Demonstrate and support the Steffes Code of Conduct.
- Policies and Procedures – Demonstrate professional attitude, sound judgment, punctuality, and adherence to all policies.
- Promote a positive image of Steffes and its products.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline or equivalent, and/or qualified years of experience.
- Intermediate computer knowledge (Windows, email, internet, etc.).
- Microsoft Word – Advanced.
- Microsoft Excel – Advanced.
- Microsoft PowerPoint – Intermediate.
- Microsoft Outlook – Basic.
- Intermediate 2D (AutoCAD) and/or 3D CAD (PTC Creo, Solidworks) experience preferred.
- Advanced math skills.
- Communication skills – Written and oral communication, interaction with customers or suppliers, phone, and public address system usage.
- Walking, sitting, or standing for a significant degree.
- Ability to lift 70 pounds from floor to waist, carry 50 pounds, and push or pull up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
- Stooping, crouching, kneeling, and bending.
- Handling, feeling, and gripping required for some activities.
- Visual acuity required to inspect work completed.
- May be subject to internal and external environmental conditions.
- Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in a workflow, communicate with visitors, handle speed or productivity quotas.
