Family Support Specialist - Dickinson

ND has an exciting opportunity within the Healthy Families Program as a Family Support Specialist. This position offers room for considerable growth within the organization. As a Family Support Specialist your role is responsible for building trusting relationships with families based on the Healthy Families America model. The FSS will visit families virtually, in their homes or other established location to provide support in establishing positive home environments, promoting strong attachments through parent child relationships, and encouraging the well‑being of children and families.

Utilizing a strengths‑based approach the FSS will practice reflective strategies to strengthen parent‑child relationships, improve parenting skills, teach effective problem‑solving and reduce family stress.

Healthy Families ND started in 2000. We provide home visiting in all counties in North Dakota. We understand that every family’s parenting journey is unique. We develop a plan based on each family’s needs to help them thrive.

Requirements
  • Associate degree and three (3) years of related experience; or bachelor’s degree in a related field: human services, psychology, sociology, social work, etc. in lieu of experience and two (2) years of related experience
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, ability to maintain reliable transportation, and proof of insurance for the vehicle
  • Successfully pass a criminal background check and drug screening
  • Minimum qualifications:

    a high school diploma or GED and 2+ years of related experience (Child Development, Social Service, or related field)
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Knowledge of infant and child development along with parent-child attachment principles
  • Open to reflective practices
  • Work with culturally diverse families with humility, accepting individual differences
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Proficient in the use of computers; knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Networking skills to build relationships with staff and community partners
  • Always maintain a professional manner with clients and in the community
  • Commitment to agency values and mission
  • Ability to motivate and coach
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective time management skills and ability to prioritize duties
  • Effective and timely entry on data and case notes
Physical Demands & Work Environment

Up to 20% travel and travel typically within a 75-mile radius. Working most typically in an office or home setting with clients. Regularly required to sit; frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, navigate stairs, stoop, kneel, crouch; must be able to lift objects up to 25 pounds. Work potentially involves some risk to personal safety of injury, illness or health arising from the environment or the public/clients.
