Overview
Maintenance Technician, Dickson Campus — Tennessee Board of Regents (T ).
Position SummaryUnder the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, performs basic maintenance and repairs to electrical, plumbing and other building systems and provides general carpentry, painting and commercial building repair/maintenance services across all seven of the College’s campuses.
Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities- Responds to and completes work orders for various maintenance projects and requests in a timely manner.
- Performs basic plumbing maintenance, including repairing faucets, caulking fixtures, running clogged drain lines and rebuilding & replacing plumbing fixtures.
- Performs electrical repairs, including replacing light fixtures, light bulbs and electrical receptacles and switches.
- Prepares, primes and paints interior and exterior building surfaces.
- Installs and repairs drywall, glass, handrails, window blinds, ceiling tile, carpet/floor tiles, baseboard molding, etc.
- Maintains and repairs doors, locks, closers.
- Repairs or replaces defective equipment.
- Conducts preventative repairs on an annual, monthly, weekly and daily basis as needed/assigned.
- Travels to extended campuses as assigned to perform routine and preventative maintenance and to assess condition of buildings/systems.
- Maintains a parts, supplies and equipment inventory and advises supervisor when inventory needs to be replenished.
- Moves chairs, desks, file cabinets and other furniture and equipment. Assembles furniture as needed.
- Assists with indoor and outdoor College event set-up and break-down, including tables, chairs, podiums, risers, stages, drapes, banners, etc., along with other miscellaneous requests.
- High school diploma or GED
- Three (3) years’ building maintenance experience
- Valid driver’s license
- Must pass a background investigation, including a favorable motor vehicle record and criminal background report
- Prior experience performing building maintenance for an organization with multiple locations/campuses
- Prior building maintenance experience in a higher education setting
- Completion of a relevant training program, such as electrical, plumbing or EPA Universal, or certification or licensure in a relevant trade
Skills And Abilities
Excellent customer service skills. Knowledge of basic construction, plumbing, electrical and preventive maintenance principles. Ability to safely use various tools and equipment, such as hammers, drills, saws, wrenches, snow shovels, compressors, golf carts, forklifts, motor vehicle, etc. Working knowledge of building systems, campus operational requirements and utility systems.
Basic computer skills, including familiarity with work order and preventative maintenance systems. Ability to frequently walk, stand, stoop, crawl, climb, bend, kneel, work on elevated surfaces, work in small/confined spaces, work overhead and be in awkward positions for extended period of time. Ability to regularly push, pull, lift, move and carry 30 to 50 pounds. Ability to work occasional nights and weekends as needed to support campus events and/or respond to maintenance and weather emergencies.
