Overview

This is a great opportunity to showcase your sound technical skills whilst working in a diverse, engaging, and collaborative team. You will work with comprehensive and high-resolution datasets, both legacy and recent, to provide technical solutions for clients. This will include geological (e.g. excavations, boreholes, core and outcrop), hydrogeological, geotechnical, and geophysical data (e.g. 2D/3D seismic reflection and refraction data, and wireline), with complex or even bespoke laboratory testing regimes to support the above.

You will integrate and interpret these datasets as input to conceptual geological, hydrogeological and engineering models. In addition, you will be involved in research activities around themes including but not limited to engineering and hydrogeological properties, and gas transport paths through geological materials. There are significant expectations over the next thirty years concerning the siting of facilities for new nuclear builds, the need for geological disposal of wastes, as well as continuing geoscience characterisation at existing licensed sites to support on‑going operations.

This role, within an expanding team, will support our strategic positioning in multiple sectors and support delivery of current and future projects.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct structural analysis and fault mapping using geophysical, borehole, and field data and integrate with other datasets to support subsurface evaluations.
  • Develop structural and numerical geomechanical models to assess stress regimes, fault stability, and fracture networks.
  • Provide technical input on a range of projects, demonstrating a flexible approach and applying broad geological knowledge.
  • Work within multidisciplinary teams to apply, and where necessary, develop new approaches to data review, interpretation, integration and model development.
  • Develop an understanding of the underlying requirements of our clients, and how we can meet those requirements.
  • Produce concise and well‑written technical reports and present interpretations, recommendations and results to clients.
  • Supervise one to two junior staff members while leading your own small to medium‑scale projects with support from the team leader.
  • Mentor junior geoscientists and contribute to technical knowledge sharing.
  • Undertake data quality and uncertainty assessments.
  • Contribute to proposals and bids, identifying opportunities to expand the business and strengthen client relationships.
  • Develop existing industry and academic skillsets in geology, geotechnics, structural geology or geophysics and apply these in support of radioactive waste disposal and other decommissioning focused investigation and research areas.
Qualifications
  • MSc or PhD in Geology, Structural Geology, or a related discipline.
  • At least 6 years of experience in structural interpretation and geomechanical modelling within nuclear waste, mining, oil & gas or related sectors.
  • Proficiency with industry‑standard software (e.g. S&P Kingdom, Petrel, FLAC3D, Move, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of tectonics, fault systems and fault mapping.
  • Knowledge of stress measurement, fracture mechanics and related parameters.
  • Experience with fault characterisation, seismic source assessment and integration of geological and geophysical data into hazard assessments.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lead activities that develop conceptual models of geological materials, including engineering aspects related to hydrogeological and gas pathways.
  • Strong time‑management skills and the ability to work on several varied projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, tailoring outputs to the requirements of different stakeholders.
  • Experience undertaking site/field work where required.
  • Ability to develop critically‑thought‑out solutions and present critical thinking in assessments.
  • Experience in site characterisation and advice on managing uncertainty and practical constraints.
  • Commitment to health, safety and environmental excellence (HSE Focus).
  • Willingness to travel to project sites across the UK and overseas when required, and hold a valid UK driving licence.
Benefits
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Retirement benefits (including 401(k) matching)
  • Educational reimbursement
  • Parental leave
  • Employee stock purchase plan
  • Tax‑saving options
  • Disability and life insurance
  • Pet insurance
Compensation

Estimated salary: £35,836 per year.
