About the RoleWe now have an opportunity for a Senior Vacuum Electrical Technician to provide vacuum systems electrical support, guidance and planning to the Diamond Project for a 3-year fixed term contract.
This role will contribute directly to the construction, testing, installation, commissioning, servicing and fault finding, repair and calibration of the Diamond vacuum instrumentation and associated systems including cabling, vacuum controllers and ancillary equipment such as pump carts, bakeout equipment and vacuum laboratory equipment
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing guidance and supervision to technical staff undertaking vacuum instrumentation projects, ensuring work is completed safely and in accordance with approved procedures. Liaising with engineers to support the production of electrical designs for vacuum systems associated with accelerators, beamlines and new equipment, including reviewing vacuum electrical drawings prior to issue and build.
- Lead the development and implementation of electrical test, commissioning, fault-finding and repair procedures for vacuum instrumentation systems, working with the Vacuum Instrumentation team to ensure safe working practices are maintained.
- Develop and deliver training programmes for vacuum systems instrumentation in collaboration with the Vacuum Instrumentation team, with particular emphasis on specialised vacuum cable construction, testing and installation.
- Work with the Senior Vacuum Engineers to maintain, fault-find and repair the instrumentation and associated control equipment used on the girder ovens.
- Support the installation, testing, commissioning and fault-finding of vacuum control and instrumentation systems across the accelerators and beamlines during Diamond II upgrade dark periods.
- Carry out formal and informal risk assessments and write method statements for the vacuum electrical systems.
You will hold an appropriate ONC/OND/City & Guilds Electrical/Electronic qualification or similar level in a relevant subject.
You will have experience and ability to:
- Understand and work with electrical and mechanical drawings and circuit diagrams.
- Carry out a variety of mechanical and electrical assembly tasks, including soldering, crimping, cable assembly and rack wiring.
- Use standard electronic measurement instruments including oscilloscopes and multi-meters.
- Make off cables with various connectors for LV and HV low power circuits.
- Test and fault find within electrical systems, with a good understanding of electrical safety practices for LV & HV low power circuits and devices.
