The school has a strong pastoral structure and a dedicated SEN team who work closely with teaching staff to create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment. There is a clear focus on emotional regulation, positive behaviour support, and pupil well-being, ensuring every learner has the opportunity to succeed both academically and personally.
Aboutthe Role
GSL Education are seeking a compassionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support. This role involves working closely with students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them access learning, manage emotions, and develop positive coping strategies. It is a highly rewarding position suited to individuals passionate about inclusive education and pastoral support.
Responsibilities- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Assist pupils in accessing classroom learning
- Implement behaviour support strategies in line with school policies
- Support emotional regulation and social development
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
- Work collaboratively with teachers and the SEN team
- Monitor and record pupil progress and behaviour
- Provide personal care support where required
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs
- Strong behaviour management skills
- Calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice (desirable)
- Ability to build rapport and professional boundaries
- Relevant TA or support work experience
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply
