Looking for a SEMH Teaching Assistant in Dinnington!

Are you committed to supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and helping them thrive in education? A supportive and nurturing school in Dinnington is looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team.

About the School

The school provides a structured and supportive environment for students who require additional emotional and behavioural support. Staff work closely together to build trusting relationships, promote positive behaviour and ensure every pupil feels understood and valued. There is a strong focus on consistency, wellbeing and creating a safe space for learning.

About the Role

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who may present with challenging behaviour or additional emotional needs. You will support them in lessons, help them regulate their emotions, and encourage positive engagement with learning. This role requires patience, resilience and a calm, consistent approach.

Responsibilities
  • Support students with SEMH needs in the classroom and around school
  • Assist teachers in delivering structured and accessible learning activities
  • Use de‑escalation strategies to manage behaviour effectively
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Support students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Help maintain a safe, calm and supportive learning environment
Requirements
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or additional needs is desirable
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach
  • Ability to build rapport with vulnerable learners
  • A genuine commitment to supporting emotional and educational development
