Do you have the patience, empathy, and dedication to make a real difference to pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs?

GSL Education are seeking compassionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistants to work in schools across Dinnington. This is a genuinely rewarding role for someone who understands that some pupils need more than academic support — they need consistency, trust, and a steady presence to help them thrive.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who face challenges in managing their emotions, behaviour, or engagement with learning, providing the kind of tailored, relationship-based support that can truly change outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver 1:1 and small group support to pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs
  • Help pupils develop emotional regulation strategies and respond constructively to difficult situations
  • Build reliable, trusting relationships that encourage engagement, progress, and self-belief
  • Collaborate with teachers and pastoral staff to implement personalised learning and behaviour plans
  • Support positive behaviour management consistently across different settings within the school
  • Monitor pupil progress and wellbeing, feeding back observations to the relevant staff

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service or completing a new application.

Requirements
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, or complex needs
  • A calm, patient, and emotionally resilient approach in demanding situations
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to remain consistent, boundaried, and supportive at all times
  • A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable young people
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to complete a new application)
