Heavy Equipment Operator – Flippo Construction Company, Inc.

Join our team as an experienced excavator operator responsible for safely operating equipment for underground utility projects, ensuring safety of employees, pedestrians, traffic, and equipment. You will excel in maximizing production while managing the hazards associated with equipment operation.

• Operate equipment safely in support of underground utility projects.
• Visually check for utilities if utility locates are not marked or cannot be defined.
• Inspect and perform general maintenance on equipment; assist fuel driver with fueling, grease the equipment daily, keep equipment clean, change buckets, check oil, battery, transmission, hydraulic systems, tires, radiators, tracks, and backup alarms before work. Complete an equipment inspection report weekly.
• Report all equipment breakdowns immediately.
• Follow directions from the foreman or designated appointee.
• Remain near or on the machine during the day unless directed otherwise.
• Assist the crew in other work when the machine is not in use.
• Attend weekly toolbox talks and all company safety meetings.
• Work in all weather conditions or climate unless there is an immediate danger.

• Both DC residents and non-DC residents are required to apply.
• Minimum 2 years of prior experience operating an excavator in support of underground utility projects.
• Must possess a current DC Operators License.
• Knowledgeable about machine operation and limitations.
• Physical ability to perform tasks for a minimum of 8 hours per day: negotiate rough terrain; climb in and out of manholes, excavations, or confined spaces; climb up and down from equipment to operate or perform routine checks; carry and use trade tools, equipment, or material up to 95 pounds; have adequate vision to observe hand signals; stand, stoop, bend, reach, climb, walk, or sit.
• Perform all associated job functions of a laborer, including shoveling, using hammers, mixing or breaking concrete, operating pipe or chain saws, carrying equipment or materials.
• Maintain a standard tool set for minor repairs and adjustments: standard wrench set (3/8”–3/4”); socket set (3/8”–3/4”); 1/2” drive ratchet;
  Phillips head screwdrivers (large & small); slotted head screwdrivers (large & small); 10”–12” adjustable wrench; hammer; pliers.
