Bloom is currently seeking a Construction of roadway and Bridge Inspector with knowledge in Bridge Construction principles. Pay Range – $65,000 to $75,000
Responsibilities- Monitor progress and quality of bridge construction, rehabilitation, and roadway new and maintenance projects to ensure work complies with contract plans, IDOT specifications, and applicable safety standards.
- Inspect, verify, and document bridge elements including substructure, superstructure, deck, bearings, joints, and approaches for conformance with approved drawing and materials.
- Conduct field inspections and collect data to evaluate bridge condition and performance during and after construction.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, photographs, and inspection records in accordance with IDOT and FHWA bridge documentation procedures.
- Identify and document deficiencies, non-conforming work, or potential safety issues; assist with developing and reviewing corrective actions or change orders.
- Interpret bride design drawings, shop drawings, and contract plans to verify accuracy and constructability.
- Communicate effectively with project engineers, contractors, and IDOT personnel to resolve construction or inspection issues in the field.
- Manage multiple bridge-related tasks concurrently, maintaining attention to detail and adherence to project schedules.
- Support the bridge inspection team in performing condition assessments, rating bridge components, and preparing reports in accordance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Construction Management.
- 0-3 years of experience in bridge inspection, bridge design, or transportation construction preferred.
- Familiarity with Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Bridge Inspection policies, manuals, and procedures.
- Working knowledge of inspection practices, materials testing, and construction documentation tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and CADD software (Micro Station preferred).
- Strong communication, organization, and technical writing skills.
- Ability to interpret structural plans, perform field measurements, and assess bridge conditions.
- Willingness to work in outdoor field environments and travel to bridge project sites throughout Illinois.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate company vehicle.
