Job Title: Youth Apprentice Teacher
Payment Rate: $14 per hour

FLSA Status:Non-Exempt

PURPOSE: The Youth Apprentice Teacher position provides DCHS students who have successfully completed the Teacher Cadet pathway with structured, career-based learning experience in a classroom setting while supporting teachers and student learning. Youth Apprentices work under the supervision of a certified teacher to assist with instructional activities, classroom organization, and student support while developing foundational skills for a future career in education.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
  • Successful Completion of DCHS Teacher Cadet Pathway
  • Enrolled concurrently in dual credit courses through a qualifying college or university.
Experience:
  • No experience required.

  • Passion for working with children and supporting their educational development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to establish positive relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic educational environment.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced teachers.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Classroom Support: Assist the lead teacher in preparing and organizing instructional materials, classroom setup, and maintaining a conducive learning environment.
  • Student Support: Monitor student behavior and ensure a safe and respectful classroom atmosphere.
  • Support students during classroom activities, transitions, and independent work.
  • Instructional Assistance: Collaborate with the lead teacher to deliver lessons and activities designed to meet the educational objectives of the curriculum.
  • Grading and Assessment: Assist in grading assignments, exams, and projects according to established guidelines.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students to support their academic growth.
  • Lesson Planning: Collaborate with the lead teacher to develop and implement lesson plans, ensuring alignment with the curriculum goals and individual student needs.
  • Classroom Management
    :
    Support the lead teacher in maintaining discipline and managing classroom routines and procedures.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and participation.
  • Communication: Maintain effective communication with students and other staff members.
  • Provide feedback to the lead teacher on student progress, challenges, and achievements.
  • Administrative Tasks
    :
    Assist with administrative tasks such as attendance recording, record keeping, and organizing student portfolios.
  • Professional Conduct: Adhere to professional standards of conduct, ethics, and confidentiality at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned and or approved by the building principal.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands, talk and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • The work environment is in a classroom setting.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

ONGOING / FUTURE EXPECTATIONS:
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with the building staff, teachers, & HR Staff.
  • Provide any requested and necessary documentation in a timely manner. Grades, Transcripts, etc.
  • Remain in good standing with the college/university in which you are completing dual credit courses – Minimum GPA of 2.5 required, etc.
  • Complete all necessary applications and documentation required for participation: FAFSA, Form 671, etc.
