SummaryThe Senior Consultant in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit is responsible for managing critically ill surgical patients, including trauma, post-operative, and complex surgical cases. The consultant provides advanced critical care, coordinates with surgical teams, and ensures seamless perioperative management. The role also includes teaching, research, and supporting HMC’s mission as a leader in critical care medicine.
Education/Qualifications Required- Qualification Source from:
North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand. - USA:
The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) - Canada:
Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRCPC) - UK and Ireland: CCT/CCST/CESR and joined the Specialty Register
- Australia and New Zealand:
Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP) - Western Europe:
Equivalent certification to the above
Experience in clinical experience in intensive care medicine after board certification.
License- Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
- Provide comprehensive care for critically ill adult patients with life-threatening medical conditions.
- Lead daily rounds, multidisciplinary discussions, and care planning in the MICU.
- Perform advanced procedures such as intubation, mechanical ventilation, central line placement, and renal replacement therapies.
- Collaborate with subspecialists including cardiology, nephrology, pulmonology, and infectious diseases.
- Supervise and mentor residents, fellows, and ICU staff in clinical practice.
- Develop, implement, and monitor evidence-based ICU protocols and guidelines.
- Participate in clinical research, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, patient safety standards, and international critical care guidelines.
- Provide leadership in emergency and mass-casualty preparedness.
