English Language Instructor – Permanent
The primary role of the English Instructor is to deliver the English curriculum to the military students at the QTI in accordance with all processes and policies. The role involves teaching, supporting the creation, maintenance and delivery of the English programme to specific standards in the Foundation department. It also includes engaging in regular feedback meetings with Senior Instructors to support continuous improvement of the instructor's class and the department as a whole.
Taking ownership of their class and leading by example, the instructor must demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, and a commitment to continuous professional development and improvement initiatives within the QTI.
- Deliver the curriculum in accordance with the QTI policies and procedures.
- Ensure military students make good progress as measured against the CEFR.
- Support the development of the department and instructors by identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Support a culture of reflection and improvement, and show a passion for teaching with a can‑do, solution‑focused attitude.
- Work collaboratively with all English instructors and instructors of other subjects to provide students with the best chance of success in the Foundation programme.
- Regularly report student progress, attendance and behaviour to Foundation management.
- Engage with the QTI's performance‑management policy effectively to ensure objectives are met.
- Demonstrate excellent SHE behaviour and undertake all mandatory trainings.
- Teach English to military students in preparation for Engineering programmes.
- Apply and ensure consistent rules of classroom behaviour.
- Carry out administrative tasks within the QTI, ensuring all student data is captured.
- Provide cover teaching in the event of absences.
- Provide support to all students throughout the learning journey of the QTI.
- Deliver lessons using a variety of differentiated instructional techniques appropriate for the context and meeting the needs of students.
- Design and develop supplementary course materials to set standards.
- Provide ongoing oral and written feedback to students.
- Prepare lesson plans, including full plans for observed lessons.
- Support course development, implementation and review.
- Operate using proper lines of communication.
- Engage with new technology.
- Assess students and provide both formative and summative evaluations.
- Ensure all data is recorded accurately and on time.
- Interact positively with military personnel.
- Respect rules of the military environment.
- Qualified teacher’s status or relevant education and training qualification (e.g., CELTA, TESOL, PGCE, MA, BA in ELT/TESOL/Education).
- Experience teaching English to international students in various contexts, especially in the Middle East (desirable).
- Experience with IELTS teaching and examinations.
- Experience with in a military setting (desirable).
- Demonstrable soft skills across a multi-disciplinary department.
- Ability to use different teaching and administrative technologies.
