The opportunity

We are seeking to appoint an experienced, dynamic, and enthusiastic Head of Physics to lead and further develop a successful, well‑established Physics team within the Science Department at Doha College. This is a key middle leadership role, with responsibility for the strategic direction, day‑to‑day leadership and continued academic excellence of Physics across all key stages. The successful candidate will provide strong professional leadership, inspire a passion for Physics among pupils, and ensure consistently high standards of teaching, learning and assessment.

They will monitor and evaluate pupil achievement, support and develop colleagues, and contribute meaningfully to the College’s wider life, vision, and mission.

The Science Department at Doha College comprises 23 full‑time teachers supported by four full‑time science technicians, with teaching delivered across 20 purpose‑built laboratories. At Key Stage 3, the College follows the UK National Curriculum. At Key Stage 4, pupils opt for Edexcel IGCSE Separate Sciences, including Physics. At Key Stage 5, pupils study International A Levels in Physics, alongside Chemistry and Biology.

Experience of and expertise in teaching A Level Physics would be highly desirable.

Our pupils consistently achieve outstanding outcomes at IGCSE and A Level, with a significant proportion of the Sixth Form cohort choosing Physics as one of their subjects. In 2025, for example, 80 percent of IGCSE pupils achieved grades 7 to 9, with 38 percent achieving grade 9, reflecting the strength of teaching and learning across the department.

Physics is a highly valued and respected subject at Doha College, and pupils are encouraged to engage with the subject beyond the taught curriculum. The department offers a rich enrichment programme, including participation in academic competitions, problem‑solving activities, practical investigations and co‑curricular clubs that promote curiosity, collaboration and independent thinking.

All classrooms are equipped with interactive smartboards, and pupils are issued iPads upon joining the College, enabling engaging, technology‑enhanced learning. The Head of Physics will play a central role in curriculum development, innovation and continuous improvement, working collaboratively within a supportive and forward‑thinking professional environment.
