Description

Postdoctoral positions are available for research projects led by Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar. The research concerns dynamic, structural, thermodynamic, transport, electrical and magnetic properties of quantum materials. The particular focus is on studies under extreme conditions of low temperature, high magnetic field and especially high pressure.

The appointment is up to 3 years, located in Doha, Qatar, with starting date of September 2026 or later.

About CMU in Qatar

CMU in Qatar (CMUQ) operates in concert with several other American and European branch campuses under the umbrella of Qatar Foundation’s Education City (https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).). The branch campus closely follows the admissions requirements and English language curriculum of the home campus in Pittsburgh, USA which awards all degrees. The several thousand students in the Education City are a broad mix of nationalities, but primarily from the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia.

CMUQ’s faculty is a mix of professionals hired specifically for this campus and seconded by faculty from the main campus. CMUQ’s primary focus is undergraduate education in Business Administration, Biological Sciences, Computer Science, and Information Systems.

Qualifications
  • PhD in relevant field
  • Mandatory strong previous experience in experimental high‑pressure techniques.
  • Highly independent and able to drive the research project with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of several transport, magnetic, thermodynamic and structural measurement techniques.
  • Experience in neutron scattering, synchrotron x‑ray studies or ARPES is an advantage.
