Position Summary:
The UES Learning Assistant Art supports the UES art program by assisting the Art Teachers in the delivery of engaging and organized art instruction. This role involves preparing materials, maintaining art spaces, supporting students across grade levels, and contributing to the presentation and display of student artwork. The incumbent will prioritize, promote and safeguard the welfare of all ASD students and show commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and organize art materials and resources required for daily lessons.
- Assist in the creation and installation of learning displays and visual presentations.
- Provide classroom support across all grade levels as needed.
- Prepare and maintain art supplies such as sketchbooks, paints, and tools.
- Supervise students during breaks (e.g., restroom, nurse visits, recess) as assigned.
- Load and unload drying racks and operate the kiln under supervision.
- Mount, matt, frame, and label student artwork for displays and exhibitions.
- Support the organization and presentation of art shows and end-of-year exhibitions.
- Deliver and collect student artwork between classes and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in Lower Elementary and Upper Elementary art rooms.
- Assist in creating bulletin boards, templates, flyers, and instructional examples.
- Apply glazes or finishing touches to student projects as directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall art program.
Qualifications, Knowledge &
Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.
- Computer literacy in both Mac and PC environments.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational, administrative, multitasking, and time-management skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, students, parents, and colleagues in a diverse community.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately and efficiently.
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional integrity.
- Adaptability to changing priorities in a fast-paced school environment.
- Experience working with children in an educational or creative setting.
- Previous experience in an international or multicultural educational environment is an advantage.
Desirable skills:
- Artistic knowledge- for example being able to properly matt a picture, ability to create a visually pleasing presentation (bulletin boards)
- Prior working experience in an education environment
