Key Duties and Areas of Responsibility Learning and Teaching
  • Establish a safe, respectful, and stimulating environment for pupils, rooted in mutual respect and Islamic values of dignity and equity
  • Set goals that stretch and challenge pupils of all backgrounds, abilities, and dispositions — including native Arabic speakers and students with SEND
  • Demonstrate consistently the positive attitudes, values, and behavior expected of pupils, both within and beyond the classroom
Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils
  • Be accountable for pupils  attainment, progress, and outcomes in both Arabic language and Islamic Studies
  • Be aware of pupils  capabilities and prior knowledge, and plan teaching to build on these — taking into account students  linguistic backgrounds, cultural contexts, and prior engagement with Islamic education
  • Guide pupils to reflect on their progress and emerging learning needs
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how pupils learn languages and moral/values-based content, and how this impacts on teaching approaches
  • Encourage pupils to take a responsible and conscientious attitude to their own work, study, and moral development
Demonstrate strong subject and curriculum knowledge
  • Maintain secure and up-to-date knowledge of the MoEHE Arabic Language curriculum and Islamic Education curriculum frameworks
  • Foster and maintain pupils  interest in Arabic language and Islamic Studies, and address misconceptions with accuracy and sensitivity
  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of developments in Arabic linguistics, pedagogy, and Islamic scholarship relevant to the school s curriculum
  • Promote high standards of Classical and Modern Standard Arabic literacy and articulacy appropriate to each student s stage of development
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of Quranic text, Islamic jurisprudence, and Islamic ethics at the level required by the school s curriculum
Plan and teach well-structured lessons
  • Impart knowledge and develop understanding through effective use of lesson time in both Arabic language and Islamic Studies
  • Promote a love of the Arabic language and Islamic heritage, and nurture students  intellectual and spiritual curiosity
  • Set homework and plan out-of-class activities to consolidate and extend pupils  language skills and ethical understanding
  • Reflect systematically on the effectiveness of lessons and teaching approaches, and adapt accordingly
  • Contribute to the design of an engaging, MoEHE-aligned curriculum within both subject areas
  • Contribute to the development of schemes of work, department resources, and assessment materials
Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils
  • Differentiate appropriately for native Arabic speakers, ASL learners, high-ability students, and those with SEND
  • Understand how linguistic, cultural, social, and cognitive factors can affect learning in Arabic and Islamic Studies, and deploy strategies to address these
  • Demonstrate awareness of students  developmental stages and adapt content and pedagogy accordingly
  • Collaborate with the SEND coordinator and school counselor where student needs intersect with subject content — particularly where Islamic Studies addresses identity, ethics, or values
Make accurate and productive use of assessment
  • Assess students against MoEHE subject benchmarks and internal school assessment frameworks
  • Use formative and summative assessment to monitor progress, set targets, and inform lesson planning
  • Use relevant data to track progress across both subjects and intervene proactively
  • Provide regular, meaningful feedback — written and oral — and encourage pupils to act on it
Manage behavior effectively
  • Establish clear routines and expectations for behavior in Arabic and Islamic Studies lessons, in line with the school s behavior policy
  • Use praise, sanctions, and rewards consistently and fairly
  • Maintain respectful, authoritative relationships with students and act decisively where necessary
