Instrumentation Supervisor (Hydraulic & Pneumatic – Offshore)
Role PurposeThe Instrumentation Supervisor oversees all instrumentation activities related to hydraulic and pneumatic systems on offshore facilities. This includes supervising maintenance, installation, calibration, testing, and troubleshooting activities for well tie-ins, WHCPs, shutdown systems, and other brownfield instrumentation work. The role requires strong offshore experience and an excellent background in instrumentation within an Electrical & Instrument discipline.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise preventive and corrective maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic instrumentation systems.
- Lead field teams performing maintenance on well tie-ins, brownfield modifications, and shutdown-related instrumentation.
- Provide daily supervision for electrical & instrument technicians, with a strong emphasis on instrumentation tasks.
- Ensure compliance with offshore HSE standards and PTW systems.
- Oversee instrument hook-up, tubing, impulse line installation, and termination activities.
- Supervise installation and testing of field instruments including:
Pressure transmitters and switches - Flow instruments (DP, Vortex, turbine, etc.)
- Level transmitters and gauges
- Temperature elements and transmitters
- Ensure correct installation of F&G devices, detectors, and panels.
- Lead maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of WHCPs (Wellhead Control Panels) – pneumatic & hydraulic
- Shutdown monitoring panels
- Hydraulic actuators, pneumatic actuators, and associated control loops
- Perform and/or supervise:
Instrument calibration - Loop checking
- Functional testing
- Final QA/QC verification of used test equipment and documentation.
- Ensure timely preparation and sign-off of ITRs and commissioning packs.
- Prepare work packs, job cards, drawings, and material requests from onshore before mobilization.
- Participate in offshore surveys and translate findings into work scopes.
- Coordinate closely with engineering, logistics, and project teams to ensure job readiness.
- Serve as Permit Authority or act as the senior technical authority in a Permit-to-Work environment.
- Lead toolbox talks, safety briefings, and ensure safe execution of daily activities.
- Champion strong HSE culture among technicians and contractors.
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical & Instrument Engineering, or related field.
Minimum 7–10 years offshore experience in instrumentation, with hands-on hydraulic & pneumatic systems experience. Strong background supervising E&I teams offshore, especially instrumentation crews. Proven experience with brownfield modifications, well tie-ins, and shutdown work. Demonstrated competency in WHCP systems, F&G instrumentation, and field measurement devices. Solid knowledge of industry standards (IEC, ISA, API). Holder of valid offshore certifications (BOSIET / HUET / Medical).
Excellent troubleshooting skills for hydraulic and pneumatic control loops. Strong leadership and team management abilities. Ability to work efficiently under offshore conditions and tight schedules. Familiarity with construction/commissioning tools (P&IDs, ILDs, hook-up drawings). Strong analytical and documentation skills.
Additional Preferred Attributes
Experience in brownfield project execution and SIMOPS environments. Knowledge of shutdown sequencing, ESD logic, and cause & effect matrices. Prior experience as PTW Permit Authority or Area Authority.
