Job Title:

Offshore Rig Welder

Location:

Offshore Oil & Gas Rigs (Platforms, Drillships, FPSOs)

Employment Type:

Rotational (e.g., 28 days on/28 days off)

Certifications

Required:

  • AWS D1.1 (Structural Steel) or ASME Section IX (Pressure Vessels/Piping)
  • Offshore‑Specific Certs:
    • BOSIET/FOET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction)
    • HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training)
    • OGUK/UKOOA Medical Fitness
    • Confined Space Entry (if applicable)
Key Responsibilities
  • Critical Fabrication & Repair:
    • Weld high‑stress components (e.g., risers, pipelines, rig structural supports) under variable weather/sea conditions.
    • Weld high‑grade alloys (e.g., duplex stainless steel, Inconel) resistant to saltwater corrosion and address vibration/fatigue stresses unique to dynamic offshore structures.
  • Strict Compliance:
    • Adhere to offshore safety protocols (e.g., PTW systems, gas testing, H2S awareness).
    • Follow rig‑specific procedures (e.g., hot work permits, simultaneous operations rules).
  • Emergency Response:
    • Act as part of the rig’s emergency team for urgent repairs (e.g., blowout preventer leaks).
  • Logistical Constraints:
    • Work in confined spaces (e.g., ballast tanks, leg columns) with limited ventilation.
    • Manage limited consumables/equipment (no quick resupply).
  • Additional Constraints:
    • Maintain work in confined spaces with limited ventilation.
  • Requirements & Qualifications
    • 5+ years welding experience (preferably in oil/gas).
    • Offshore survival training (non‑negotiable).
    • Ability to pass random drug/alcohol tests (rig policy).
    • Offshore welders must prioritize adaptability, safety, and teamwork over speed—errors can escalate catastrophically in remote locations.
    • Training reimbursements and insurance coverage are the employer’s responsibility.
