JOB PURPOSEThe Project Control Engineer supports the Senior Project Control Engineer in planning, monitoring and controlling project cost, schedule and progress performance across Major Projects. The role ensures alignment with contractual obligations, project objectives and company standards while analysing schedules, forecasts and progress reports to enable accurate tracking and support informed decision‑making. The engineer promotes, adheres to and ensures compliance with QAFCO’s Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental, Energy and Quality management systems and standards, coordinating effectively with other project team members.
KEYACCOUNTABILITIES
- Awareness of QAFCO Integrated Management Systems (Quality, Environment, Occupational Health & Safety, Responsible Care & Energy Management Systems and IFA Product Stewardship)
- Comply with all relevant QAFCO Integrated Management Systems policies and procedures
- Ensure QAFCO and Project HSEQ requirements take the highest priority and are actively implemented in day‑to‑day activities
- Develop, maintain and enforce Project schedules covering engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover phases in full compliance with EPCC contract requirements
- Oversee EPCC Contractor’s critical‑path analysis, float management and schedule optimisation for timely milestone delivery
- Coordinate with discipline leads and contractors to align detailed schedules with the overall project timeline
- Lead the development of baseline schedules, including resource loading
- Monitor progress against baseline and forecast schedules, identify delays and recommend recovery plans
- Implement and manage planning tools, ensuring consistent use across stakeholders
- Track and report physical progress, earned value and schedule performance
- Prepare and present weekly/monthly progress reports, dashboards and executive summaries for senior management and stakeholders
- Coordinate with contractors to review and validate monthly progress reports and updates
- Support preparation of Steering Committee presentations, highlighting key risks, achievements and deviations
- Maintain accurate and auditable records of planning data, progress curves and performance trends
- Ensure EPCC Contractor develops resource histograms, manpower plans and productivity tracking
- Assist in forecasting cost impacts of schedule changes and delays
- Provide input for budget planning, cash‑flow projections and cost control
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical or related discipline)
- Professional certification in project management or controls (e.g., PMP, CCP) is preferred
- Minimum 10 years of experience in project controls on major projects, preferably in fertilizer or petrochemical plants
- Proven expertise in planning and coordinating integrated activities for onshore field equipment
- At least 3–5 years of experience on large‑scale projects (EPCC or similar)
- Fluency in English (written and spoken)
- Strong interpersonal and organisational skills
- Advanced computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Familiarity with project control software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) is an advantage
