Ceto Talent is partnering with a leading shipowner/operator to appoint an experienced Marine Operations Superintendent to support the safe, efficient and compliant operation of a modern fleet operating in the LNG/LPG and oil transportation sector.
This is a shore-based role with significant interface across vessels, terminals, charterers and internal stakeholders, requiring strong operational, vetting and safety leadership.
The RoleReporting to the Head of Operations, the Marine Operations Superintendent is responsible for ensuring vessels are operated safely, efficiently and in full compliance with international regulations, flag state requirements, company policies and charterer expectations.
The role plays a key part in navigation standards, cargo operations, vetting performance, audits, incident investigations and continuous improvement across marine operations.
Key Responsibilities Marine Operations & Compliance- Ensure vessels operate safely, reliably and cost-effectively in line with industry best practice
- Drive compliance with international conventions, flag state regulations, port/terminal requirements and company policies
- Act as owner/operator representative for STS and ESTS operations
- Ensure vessel certification remains valid and audit-ready
- Manage SIRE and CDI inspections, including preparation, attendance support and timely close-out of observations
- Maintain VPQ, SIRE, TMSA and Q88 vessel data accurately
- Identify and mitigate operational, procedural and compliance gaps
- Conduct regular ship inspections and internal audits (navigation, cargo, safety, security, galley, environmental)
- Coordinate audit close-out with HSSEQ and technical teams
- Undertake ship visits as required to ensure effective ship management
- Maintain and continuously improve the Safety Management System in line with ISM requirements
- Brief senior officers prior to joining vessels on SMS, company procedures and charterer requirements
- Supervise voyage planning and vessel performance to ensure statutory and charterer compliance
- Support claims avoidance and dispute resolution related to vessel performance
- Ensure compliance with SEEMP and energy efficiency objectives
- Participate in ship/shore compatibility studies and terminal approvals
- Liaise with agents, charterers and terminals to support safe berthing operations
- Conduct in-house mooring analyses
- Lead marine incident investigations and ensure timely close-out
- Conduct risk assessments and environmental impact assessments in line with industry standards
- Perform assigned duties under the Emergency Response Plan
- Support career development, promotion assessments and performance management of ship staff
- Participate in recruitment and interviews for senior seagoing personnel
- Act as a key interface between shore management and vessels
- Represent the company in industry forums and meetings

- Degree in Nautical Science or related discipline and/or
- Master Mariner Certificate of Competency
- 8–12 years’ total experience, including:
- Minimum 3 years as Master on LNG, LPG or oil tankers
- At least 2 years in a shore-based marine or fleet management role
- Experience working in multicultural environments
- Strong knowledge of SOLAS, ISM, MARPOL, ISPS, SOPEP and ISO standards
- Proven experience with ship vetting, inspections and emergency response
- Certified or experienced Lead Auditor (ISO / ISM / ISPS)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
