Research Assistant – Geotechnical Engineering

Oryx University invites applications for a Full-Time Research Assistant position in Geotechnical Engineering under a competitively funded research project supported by QRDI. The role is suited to a highly motivated candidate with strong experimental, analytical, and numerical modelling capabilities, who can actively contribute to advanced geotechnical research activities.

• Independently perform advanced geotechnical laboratory testing
• Ensure laboratory testing is conducted in accordance with relevant standards and best practices
• Analyse experimental results, interpret soil behaviour, and provide technical commentary and recommendations
• Identify testing or data-related issues and take corrective or improvement actions when required
• Contribute to the modification and optimisation of laboratory testing procedures
• Perform numerical modelling and analysis using PLAXIS 2D
• Prepare high-quality technical and research reports, including data interpretation and discussion
• Support literature reviews and contribute to research outputs linked to project objectives
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team while maintaining a high level of independence

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a strong Geotechnical Engineering background
• Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering (highly preferred)
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with triaxial (UU, CU, CD) and direct shear testing
• Experience in laboratory data analysis and interpretation
• Working knowledge of PLAXIS 2D
• Strong technical writing, documentation, and reporting skills
• Ability to work independently, manage laboratory activities, and meet project deadlines
• Research-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail
• Experience working in experimental research laboratories
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Good communication and teamwork abilities
