Full-Time Research Assistant – Geotechnical EngineeringOryx University invites applications for a Full-Time Research Assistant position in Geotechnical Engineering under a competitively funded research project supported by QRDI. The role is suited to a highly motivated candidate with strong experimental, analytical, and numerical modelling capabilities, who can actively contribute to advanced geotechnical research activities.
Key Responsibilities- Independently perform advanced geotechnical laboratory testing
- Ensure laboratory testing is conducted in accordance with relevant standards and best practices
- Analyse experimental results, interpret soil behaviour, and provide technical commentary and recommendations
- Identify testing or data-related issues and take corrective or improvement actions when required
- Contribute to the modification and optimisation of laboratory testing procedures
- Perform numerical modelling and analysis using PLAXIS 2D
- Prepare high-quality technical and research reports, including data interpretation and discussion
- Support literature reviews and contribute to research outputs linked to project objectives
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team while maintaining a high level of independence
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a strong Geotechnical Engineering background
- Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering (highly preferred)
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with triaxial (UU, CU, CD) and direct shear testing
- Experience in laboratory data analysis and interpretation
- Working knowledge of PLAXIS 2D
- Strong technical writing, documentation, and reporting skills
- Ability to work independently, manage laboratory activities, and meet project deadlines
- Research-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail
- Experience working in experimental research laboratories
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Good communication and teamwork abilities
