Reports To: Project Manager / Project Controls Manager
Job PurposeThe Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, monitoring, and updating project schedules, ensuring that projects are executed efficiently, on time, and within budget. This role requires strong expertise in project planning, progress tracking, and reporting, as well as close coordination with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure smooth project execution.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Planning & Scheduling
Develop detailed project schedules using Primavera P6/MS Project, covering engineering, procurement, and construction phases.
Define project milestones, critical paths, and resource allocation plans.
Prepare baseline programs and secure client/consultant approvals.
Progress Monitoring & Control
Monitor project progress against the approved baseline schedule.
Identify schedule variances, delays, and potential risks, and recommend corrective actions.
Update schedules periodically and prepare progress S-curves and histograms.
Coordination & Communication
Coordinate with project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to collect progress data.
Conduct planning review meetings and present progress updates to stakeholders.
Support project managers in decision-making with accurate schedule forecasts.
Reporting & Documentation
Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports for internal and client review.
Maintain detailed records of schedule changes and justifications.
Assist in preparing extension of time (EOT) claims and delay analysis.
Compliance & Standards
Ensure all planning activities comply with company procedures, MME/UPDA standards, and contractual requirements.
Adhere to safety, quality, and regulatory standards in all project planning tasks.
Qualifications & ExperienceEducation: Bachelor’s degree in any Engineering discipline.
Licenses &
Certifications:
MME/UPDA License (Mandatory).
Experience: Minimum of 10 years in a similar planning role, preferably in construction, infrastructure, or oil & gas projects.
Technical
Skills:
Proficiency in Primavera P6 and MS Project.
Strong understanding of project planning methodologies and earned value management (EVM).
Knowledge of contractual terms related to planning and scheduling.
Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
High attention to detail and organizational skills.
Collaborative and team-oriented approach.
Working ConditionsPrimarily office-based with periodic site visits.
May require extended working hours to meet project deadlines.
Exposure to construction and industrial environments during site visits.
