About the Role

Qatar Airways are pleased to announce an incredibly exciting opportunity to join our Flight Operations ‑ Engineering team as an Aircraft Datalink & Connectivity Engineer to be based in Doha, Qatar.

As an Aircraft Datalink & Connectivity Engineer, you will be part of a team responsible for Aircraft Communications and Connectivity of Qatar Airways Fleet. You will be responsible for ensuring the aircraft operations are conducted in a safe and economical manner satisfying all related operational, regulatory and manufacturer requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Lead cockpit connectivity projects with emphasis on operational ground applications and airborne software integration, ensuring compliance of all airborne and ground systems while adhering with the connected‑aircraft industry concepts and standards, as well as research into new aircraft connectivity technologies.
  • Lead cockpit connectivity projects assigned by management in cooperation and coordination with specialized departments to ensure optimum quality of product within the stipulated timeframe.
  • Follow up on updates/upgrades/enhancements with Aircraft Manufacturers and OEMs to ensure compliance of new modifications and proposed solutions.
  • Maintain coordination with other departments (EFB, Technical pilots, Engineering, Software management, IT and Cybersecurity) to ensure delivery of operational requirements.
  • Research into new aircraft connectivity technologies in partnership with technical departments to implement if where is applicable and when is required.
  • Investigate Aircraft Connectivity issues with technical departments to ensure adequate Software and Hardware troubleshooting with minimum interruption to operations.
  • Assist in the follow‑up on Aircraft Status and the corresponding Activations and Deactivations in coordination with the Datalink team to comply with the section’s processes.
  • Support both the Aircraft communication and datalink engineer and the Ground Systems Specialist in line with management directives to make certain all tasks are fulfilled in a timely manner.
  • Follow‑up on Aircraft configuration and integration of Ground Datalink Systems with relevant specialists to guarantee network integrity.
  • Program the AOC DB and AMI parts in coordination and guidance of the section's manager to support the Aircraft communication and datalink engineer when needed.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Aeronautical / Mechatronics / Communications or an alternative Electronics Engineering with minimum 5 years job‑relevant experience.
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in Datalink / Aircraft Communications / Cockpit Connectivity in an Airline Flight Operations Engineering or Avionics Engineering or with OEM (AIRBUS / BOEING COLLINS / etc.) or with a DSP (SITA / ARINC).
  • Experience in Ground Datalink Systems configuration and administration (Hermes / Aircom Server) preferred.
  • Excellent command of AOC programming tools (B777 GBST, B787 GBST, ART & AIRSIM, A350/A380 GSE and/or Collin’s IMACT).
  • Profound knowledge of ARINC/AEEC Specifications/Protocols.
  • Profound knowledge of Datalink & Comms Avionics systems and software on all Aircraft Types.
  • Profound knowledge of aviation Communications mediums and infrastructure.
  • Excellent knowledge in ACARS over IP, Cockpit Connectivity modules (FOMAX, AID, etc.).
  • Excellent knowledge of Aircraft Peripheral Avionics systems.
  • Good knowledge in Programming (, Visual C, C++, Python, etc.) preferred.
