Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent degree in Civil Engineering.
- Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
- Excellent knowledge of engineering and structural design experience.
- A professional engineer registered with a reputable international professional engineering institution will be an added advantage.
- MMUP Grade A (Design) certified engineer preferred.
- A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in large buildings (with PT slab/beam, Hollow core slabs for RCC structures and Steel structures), infrastructure and civil projects.
- Previous experience in water retaining structures and dewatering preferred.
- Hands‑on design experience on large scale underground and overground concrete structures, as well as experience in the design of steel structures.
- Experience in the design of underground lateral support systems and temporary works design.
- Experience in the design of high rise buildings with composite elements and industrial low rise buildings.
- Previous experience in review of design deliverables – design calculations/drawings/specifications.
- Good knowledge in construction activities and project management.
- Previous experience in review of construction documents, including time/cost claims.
- Skill/knowledge of international and local standards, including EURO, EN, ASTM, and QCS, related to the relevant area of expertise.
- Experience in projects’ pre‑commissioning, commissioning, and handover activities.
- Possess good communication and presentation skills.
- Good knowledge of English, both written and spoken.
- Computer literate in structural design packages.
- Experienced in the latest relevant design software – Etabs/SAFE/Staadpro and others.
- Experienced in resolving technical challenges related to relevant engineering work and adjacent discipline issues.
- Ability to prioritise and conclude multiple tasks in a timely manner to meet scheduled deadlines alongside unscheduled urgent activities.
- Ability to coordinate with and promote teamwork amongst stakeholders, co‑workers, and external organisations.
- Conduct Civil/Structural Engineering activities throughout all stages of the assigned projects.
- Check and review all project drawings and documents (civil, structural, specifications, calculations and proposed materials) submitted by others in accordance with the project scope, specifications, applicable standards.
- Review and justify material submissions, analyse laboratory and technical reports, and evaluate acceptance of sampling plans, testing and quality measures, ensuring compliance with the project’s specifications.
- Prepare Structural Scope of Works for various types of Contracts.
- Participate and provide assistance in projects’ pre‑commissioning, commissioning and handover activities.
- Review and evaluate contract changes/variations to approved guidelines and applicable codes, standards and practices; make recommendations for approval or rejection of technical deviations.
- Review and approve method statements developed by contracted organisations for scope compliance; liaise with contracted organisations to resolve technical issues.
- Lead the technical team and assist the senior project engineer for all technical matters related to the assigned projects.
- Coordinate with the appointed Qatar Registered Consultant (QRC), responsible for construction management and construction supervision, as required.
- Conduct evaluation of technical bid packages for scope compliance.
- Plan and coordinate activities of a team of multidisciplinary engineers for providing timely delivery of technical services to meet the project requirements.
- Coordinate engineering designs and develop and review multi-disciplinary work scopes for projects and other engineering activities; ensure that the work scope is comprehensive and clear.
- Support the development of personal technical competency and skills and those of co‑workers; participate in structured training for Associate Qatari Engineers.
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary/cultural environment.
- Ability to resolve technical challenges related to civil/structural engineering work and adjacent discipline issues.
