Job Description

SOSi is looking for a Hazardous Material Specialist to oversee hazardous material handling and disposal on an overseas O&M contract.

Qualifications
  • Identify, manage, store, and dispose of dangerous materials (chemical, radioactive, biological) to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct site inspections, manage spills, maintain compliance records, and train personnel on safety protocols.
  • Collect and process hazardous waste from generation points and ensure proper segregation of waste streams.
  • Prepare reports and maintain accurate records, including waste manifests, inspection reports, and safety data sheets.
  • Conduct risk assessments and respond to environmental emergencies.
  • Plan and schedule daily, weekly, and monthly activities.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOS, and host nation environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Interface with program management, safety, quality, and technical leads.
  • Perform additional duties assigned in support of mission requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Certifications:

    HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) 40-hour certification.
  • Education:

    Associates degree or higher; OR 4 years of experience handling relevant HAZMAT can be substituted in place of a civilian degree.
  • Experience with HAZMAT Classes 2, 3, 4, 8, and 9.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DoD hazardous waste and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to comply with U.S. and host-nation environmental and safety requirements for overseas operations.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to operate government vehicles.
Additional Information
  • Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable.
  • Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.
  • Personnel should be aware of potential to move on short notice and under adverse conditions.
