Job Description & How to Apply Below
We are looking for a competent Corrosion Engineer to join our LNG and gas processing operations in Qatar. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing corrosion mechanisms, developing monitoring and mitigation strategies, and conducting risk-based inspection (RBI) assessments. This role directly supports asset integrity, life extension studies, and long-term reliability of critical oil & gas infrastructure.
2.Key Responsibilities Corrosion Analysis & Mechanism Identification
- Analyze and identify active and potential corrosion mechanisms in LNG processing, gas treatment, and associated utility systems (e.g., sweet/sour corrosion, CO corrosion, HS-induced cracking, under-deposit corrosion, and microbiologically influenced corrosion – MIC).
- Review process parameters (temperature, pressure, flow regime, fluid composition) to predict corrosion behavior.
- Investigate corrosion-related failures and prepare root cause analysis (RCA) reports.
- Develop, implement, and manage corrosion monitoring programs including corrosion coupons, electrical resistance (ER) probes, linear polarization resistance (LPR) probes, and ultrasonic thickness monitoring.
- Design and recommend chemical treatment programs (corrosion inhibitors, biocides, scale inhibitors, oxygen scavengers) in coordination with process and chemical engineers.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for corrosion control effectiveness.
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate metallic and non-metallic materials for new installations and replacement components based on process conditions and corrosion resistance.
- Assess and approve coating, lining, and cladding systems for internal and external corrosion protection.
- Review material test certificates (MTCs) and verify compliance with project specifications.
- Conduct RBI assessments in accordance with API 581 / API 580 methodologies to optimize inspection intervals and reduce unnecessary downtime.
- Integrate corrosion study outputs (corrosion loops, damage mechanisms) into RBI models.
- Work closely with inspection teams to translate RBI findings into actionable inspection plans (UT, radiography, CVI, etc.).
- Provide technical recommendations for life extension of aging assets, including pressure vessels, piping, heat exchangers, and storage tanks.
- Perform remaining life assessments and corrosion rate calculations using historical thickness data.
- Recommend mitigation measures such as weld overlay, clad repair, chemical injection changes, or operational parameter adjustments.
- Prepare and maintain corrosion management manuals, corrosion control documents (CCDs), and corrosion loop diagrams.
- Ensure all activities comply with NACE, API, ASME, and client integrity management standards.
- Present findings and recommendations to internal integrity teams and client representations.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering – Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Metallurgical Engineering (Materials / Chemical strongly preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience in corrosion control, materials engineering, or asset integrity within the oil & gas sector
. - At least 2 years of experience in LNG, gas processing, refining, or petrochemical environments in Qatar or similar GCC region.
- Proven experience with corrosion monitoring systems, RBI (API 581), and failure analysis.
- Strong understanding of corrosion mechanisms in hydrocarbon and gas processing systems.
- Working knowledge of NACE standards (NACE SP0169, SP0108, RP0775, etc.).
- Familiarity with API 580/581, ASME B31.3, and ASME Section VIII.
- Proficiency in using RBI software (e.g., APM, Meridium, or similar) is an advantage.
- Excellent analytical, report‑writing, and presentation skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and within a multi‑disciplinary team (process, inspection, operations).
- Valid Qatar (QID) or ability to obtain Qatar work visa.
- Willingness to visit field locations (industrial zones, LNG plant sites) as required.
