Principal Electrical Engineer – Offshore Oil & Gas (In-House Projects)
Role OverviewA leading EPC organization is seeking a highly experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to support in-house offshore oil & gas projects. The role covers the full engineering lifecycle, including PRE-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design, and requires deep offshore technical expertise combined with strong leadership capability. This is a senior technical authority position, responsible for leading the electrical discipline on complex offshore facilities and ensuring engineering excellence, compliance, and safe project delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Offshore Electrical Engineering Leadership
- Act as the Principal / Technical Authority for Electrical Engineering on offshore oil & gas projects.
- Lead the electrical discipline through PRE-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design phases.
- Review, approve, and ensure the quality of all electrical engineering deliverables for offshore facilities.
- Provide expert guidance on offshore-specific electrical design challenges, including hazardous areas, marine environments, and space-constrained installations.
- Project Execution & Technical Assurance
- Support project execution teams to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of offshore projects.
- Ensure full compliance with international and offshore standards (IEC, IEEE, NEC, API, DNV, ABS, etc.) and client specifications.
- Participate in design reviews, model reviews, HAZID/HAZOP studies, and technical audits.
- Review and approve vendor technical documentation, electrical equipment specifications, and datasheets suitable for offshore applications.
- Team Leadership & Discipline Management
- Lead, manage, and mentor a team of electrical engineers and designers.
- Allocate work, monitor progress, and ensure timely and high-quality delivery of discipline deliverables.
- Provide technical coaching and oversight to junior and senior engineers.
- Support discipline resource planning and capability development.
- Client & Stakeholder Interface
- Act as the primary electrical engineering interface with clients, licensors, vendors, and third‑party consultants.
- Provide technical input during bid, proposal, and estimation phases when required.
- Represent the organization in technical meetings related to offshore electrical engineering scope.
- Offshore HV & LV power generation and distribution systems
- Electrical equipment specification and sizing for offshore environments
- Hazardous area classification and offshore electrical design
- Earthing, bonding, and lightning protection systems for offshore facilities
- Electrical interfaces with process, structural, and marine systems
- Use of electrical engineering tools and systems common to offshore EPC projects
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Minimum 17+ years of electrical engineering design experience within the Oil & Gas industry.
- Minimum 10+ years of offshore project experience, including offshore platforms, FPSOs, jackets, or offshore process modules.
- Proven experience across PRE-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design phases.
- At least 5 years in a Lead / Principal / Discipline Lead role, managing teams of electrical engineers and designers.
- Strong background working within EPC / EPCM organizations on large‑scale offshore projects.
