Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical designs including HVAC, plumbing, drainage and firefighting systems based on project specifications and applicable codes.
  • Perform load calculations using design software such as HAP or equivalent and determine equipment capacities and duct/piping sizes.
  • Identify design and constructability issues and raise RFIs.
  • Prepare design drawings, schematics and single‑line diagrams for all mechanical systems in coordination with architectural and structural layouts.
  • Review design drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with project and authority standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, CIBSE).
  • Select and specify HVAC and plumbing equipment, including chillers, FAHUs, AHUs, FCUs, pumps, valves and control devices.
  • Prepare BOQs, technical specifications and design reports.
  • Coordinate with consultants, clients and other disciplines (electrical, civil, architectural) to resolve technical issues and ensure proper integration of services.
  • Prepare shop drawings to ensure compliance with approved design intent and authority requirements.
  • Liaise with local authorities (QCDD, Kahramaa, etc.) for design approvals, NOCs and compliance verification.
  • Identify Value Engineering opportunities for cost savings.
  • Participate in BIM coordination meetings to ensure mechanical services are properly routed and clash‑free.
  • Support QA/QC team by reviewing inspection and testing procedures from a design‑compliance perspective.
  • Ensure all designs are documented, updated and controlled according to ISO quality procedures.
  • Prepare as‑built documentation and final design reports for project handover.
  • Assist in commissioning plan preparation and system performance validation as per design criteria.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of authority regulations, energy efficiency requirements and new design technologies.
Qualifications
  • Holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Possession of UPDA/MMUP Certified Mechanical Engineer Grade‑A and QCDD approval (mandatory).
  • Additional certifications such as NFPA, ASHRAE, LEED/ESTIDAMA are advantageous.
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in mechanical system design for high‑rise commercial, residential and hospitality buildings.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of GCC experience.
  • Strong technical background in HVAC, plumbing, drainage and firefighting system design in accordance with international and local authority standards (QCDD & Kahramaa, etc.).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of design software such as HAP, Elite.
  • Familiarity with BIM coordination tools.
