Position Objectives

Plan and optimise DWDM and optical transport network capacity, covering wavelength planning, optical path design, equipment capacity, protection, diversity, and implementation-ready transport documentation.

Job Description and Responsibilities
  • Prepare DWDM/optical transport plans for backbone, metro, and inter-site connectivity requirements.
  • Translate traffic demand, service requirements, and IP/MPLS needs into wavelength, channel, OTN, and transport capacity plans.
  • Design and validate optical paths, protection schemes, diversity, regeneration requirements, ROADM/OADM usage (including CDC-F ROADM), transponder capacity, and power budget constraints.
  • Strong in optical spectrum, such as ITU-T grids and Flex Grid as Super Channels.
  • Knowledge about multilayer protection, from optical like OLP to ASON to L2 as G.8032 (Ethernet Ring Protection Switching - ERPS) or equivalent.
  • Synchronism in frequency and phase, SyncE and IEEE 1588v2 (PTP).
  • Review existing transport inventory, fibre routes, shelf/card/port capacity, wavelength utilisation, and as-built records.
  • Coordinate with fibre planners, IP/MPLS planners, operations, vendors, and implementation teams to align optical plans with physical route and service requirements.
  • Prepare planning outputs, including wavelength allocation, trail/path records, equipment/card requirements, port assignments, and migration plans.
  • Support reconciliation of planned DWDM services with network inventory, circuit records, and NMS/EMS data.
  • Identify risks related to capacity exhaustion, lack of route diversity, optical impairments, incompatible equipment, or inaccurate records.
  • Ensure plans follow vendor engineering guidelines, standards, naming conventions, and documentation governance.
  • Strong stakeholder management and practical communication with technical and non-technical teams.
  • Close attention to detail, quality mindset, and structured documentation habits.
  • Ability to work under delivery pressure while maintaining accuracy and governance.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ownership of assigned deliverables.
  • Collaborative mindset across planning, engineering, operations, rollout, and vendor teams.
  • English and Arabic – mandatory.
Qualification and Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Telecom or equivalent.
  • 7+ years in DWDM/OTN/optical transport planning or engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of wavelengths, OTN, ROADM, transponders, muxponders, protection, optical budgets, latency, and fibre impairments.
  • Experience with major optical vendors and NMS/EMS/inventory systems.
  • Experience with DWDM CDC-F and the most recent technology.
  • Ability to validate transport paths using fibre, port, shelf, card, and circuit data.
  • Experience producing implementation-ready transport planning documents and migration inputs.
  • MEF/Carrier Ethernet or OTN training is an advantage.
