Responsibilities
- Overall checking and inspection of 220kV, 132kV, 66kV and 11kV switchyards, switch rooms, control room, relay and control panels, battery chargers, telemetry room, CO2 system, transformer tap changers, control panels and other equipment.
- Note down any abnormalities and inform to Kahramaa's System Control.
- Systematically log events and abnormalities like faults, tripping, weather conditions etc. and record readings such as voltage, currents, MW, cable oil pressure, GIS switch gear pressure, tap positions etc. as required by the System Control Engineer of Kahramaa.
- Carry out switching or other operations of equipment in the substation under direct instructions from Kahramaa's System Control Engineer on duty, if required.
- Assist the Shift Control Engineer in executing switching programs.
- Maintain system voltage and frequency at prescribed levels at all times.
- Assist the Control Engineer for economic load dispatch of active and reactive power to various power stations.
- Participate in the preparation of daily reports.
- Assist the shift control engineer during emergencies.
- Log system events, alarms, switching operations and other reports from the field.
- Attend special tasks assigned by the Head of System Control Section, Senior System Control Engineer and Control Engineers.
- Perform other related duties as needed upon request by the immediate supervisor.
- Maintain and update the filing system for all control room records.
- Maintain manuals and software updated for all relevant systems.
- Work in cooperation with the Quality Assurance and Continual Improvement department on securing and maintaining ISO 9002 certification.
- Carry out and ensure compliance of all activities within the National Control Center Section in line with Kahramaa health and safety regulations.
- Minimum five years’ experience for diploma holders and minimum two years for Bachelor's degree holders in operation and maintenance of substations with power transformers, GIS/minimum oil switch gear and associated equipment of voltage rating 220kV, 132kV, 66kV, 33kV and 11kV; or two years for graduate engineers.
- Knowledge of protection, HV/EHV cables, EHV overhead lines and transformer on-load tap changers is essential.
