Location: Offshore Oil & Gas Rigs (Platforms, Drillships, FPSOs)
Employment Type: Rotational (e.g., 28 days on/28 days off)
Certifications
Required:
- AWS D1.1 (Structural Steel) or ASME Section IX(Pressure Vessels/Piping)
- BOSIET/FOET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction)
- HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training)
- OGUK/UKOOA Medical Fitness
- Confined Space Entry (if applicable)
Critical Fabrication & Repair:
- Weld high-stress components (e.g., risers,pipelines, rig structural supports) under variable weather/seaconditions.
Strict Compliance:
- Adhere to offshore safety protocols (e.g.,PTW systems, gas testing, H2S awareness).
- Follow rig-specific procedures (e.g.,hot work permits, simultaneous operations rules).
- Weld high-grade alloys (e.g.,duplex stainless steel, Inconel) resistant to saltwater corrosion.
- Address vibration/fatigue stresses uniqueto dynamic offshore structures.
Emergency Response:
- Act as part of the rig’s emergencyteam for urgent repairs (e.g., blowout preventer leaks).
Logistical Constraints:
- Work in confined spaces (e.g.,ballast tanks, leg columns) with limited ventilation.
- Manage limited consumables/equipment (noquick resupply).
- 5+ years welding experience (preferably inoil/gas).
- Offshore survival training (non-negotiable).
- Ability to pass random drug/alcoholtests (rig policy).
- Training Reimbursements (Employer responsibility when expire on job).
- Insurance Coverage (Employer responsibility).
Offshore welders must prioritize adaptability,safety, and teamwork over speed—errors can elevate catastrophicallyin remote locations.
