We are seeking a Drainage Design Expert specialising in pumping stations to manage design activities for major infrastructure projects in Doha, Qatar. The role provides management oversight across all phases of the project, ensuring specifications are followed and work proceeds on schedule and within budget, while providing design support, reviewing design documentation, and ensuring design principles are correctly applied.
General DescriptionManage design activities to ensure that targets are being met and progress being delivered for Authority managed Projects.
Provide management oversight for all phases of the construction project, ensuring that specifications are being followed and work is proceeding on schedule and within budget.
Provide design support related to the Project.
Draft, review or recommend any design related documents as required.
Review and ensure that design principles are incorporated and applied.
Identify, develop and promote Programme and Project required design policies.
Provide progress reports as and when required.
Attendance at relevant meetings.
Job ResponsibilitiesProvide design support and technical expertise as required throughout the duration of a project.
Review design reports, architectural and engineering drawings to make sure that all contract specifications, regulatory and legislative requirements are being followed.
Coordinate designs and tasks with stakeholders during all phases of a project.
Oversee, manage, and review the performance of consultants and contractors in terms of design.
Develop a cost-effective plan and schedule for completion of a project following a logical pattern for utilisation of resources.
Supervise design managers, review their reports, check on any reported difficulties, and highlight any safety, quality or environmental violations or other reported deficiencies.
Regularly report on design progress, elevate issues and propose any necessary modifications to plans.
Identify, develop, and promote Programme and Project required design policies by applying international design standards and best practice across various projects.
Required Skills and CompetenciesMinimum 20 years’ overall experience in design of large pumping stations.
At least 12 years’ experience working for consultant firms delivering large multidisciplinary projects.
In-depth understanding of the planning and the technical requirements of pumping stations, bringing together civil and mechanical design requirements with an understanding of modelling and stakeholder conditions.
Experienced in design management and technical coordination with an in-depth knowledge of design procedures and processes.
Experience of technical reviews and the use of structural design software.
Experience in handling environmental aspects and stakeholders.
Knowledge of constructability, durability, sustainability and operation & maintenance of deep tunnels and outfalls.
A “rounded profile”, with experience of leading multidisciplinary design teams.
Effective in building good working relationships within complex organisational structures and with various internal and external project stakeholders.

Mandatory MandatesBachelor’s degree from a recognised university in an appropriate field such as Engineering or equivalent.
Evidence of suitable professional qualification, CEng or equivalent.
Excellent communication skills in English, written and spoken.
Driver’s Licence.
Master’s degree in a relevant field
Experience of working in Qatar and / or the Gulf region.
