Job Summary
The Finance Director will be responsible for leading and managing the financial activities of the organization, with specific responsibility for civil engineering and construction operations
. The role will oversee financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, project financial control, contracts, cash flow, reporting, risk management, and compliance.
The ideal candidate must have strong and proven finance experience within the civil engineering, construction, contracting, infrastructure, or related project-based industry
.
- Oversee all financial operations and provide financial leadership for civil and construction projects.
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial strategy.
- Monitor and report financial performance, project profitability, cash flow, and financial position to senior management and the Board of Directors.
- Prepare short- and long-term financial forecasts and project financial projections.
- Oversee construction project accounting, project cost control, and financial reporting.
- Monitor project budgets, actual costs, commitments, variations, claims, retention, accruals, and project margins.
- Ensure timely contract billing, invoicing, collections, and receivables.
- Monitor project cash flow and working capital to ensure sufficient funds for construction operations.
- Work closely with Commercial, Contracts, Quantity Surveying, Procurement, and Project teams on financial matters.
- Review the financial aspects of construction contracts, subcontractors, variations, claims, and project commitments.
- Lead the annual budgeting and planning process and monitor performance against approved budgets.
- Identify financial, commercial, and project-related risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, financial regulations, policies, and internal controls.
- Oversee internal and external audits and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
- Establish and maintain effective financial control procedures for organizational and project assets.
- Evaluate and improve accounting, reporting, billing, collection, and financial control systems.
- Lead, manage, and develop the finance and accounting team.
- Provide financial advice and recommendations to senior management on construction projects and business decisions.
- Ensure effective use of ERP and financial management systems, preferably SAP.
- Strong knowledge of finance and accounting within the civil and construction industry
. - Strong understanding of construction project accounting and cost control.
- Knowledge of construction contracts, billing, variations, claims, retention, and project cash flow.
- Strong budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and reporting skills.
- Strong knowledge of risk management and internal financial controls.
- Knowledge of full-cycle accounting and audit processes.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced MS Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- SAP/ERP experience is required or highly preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of finance and accounting experience
. - Proven experience in finance leadership within the Civil Engineering, Construction, Contracting, or Infrastructure industry
- Proven experience in a senior finance management position within a construction or civil engineering environment.
- Strong experience in project finance, project cost control, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, billing, and collections.
- Experience working with Project Management, Commercial, Contracts, Quantity Surveying, Procurement, and senior management teams.
- Master’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CMA, ACA, CIMA, or equivalent is preferred.
