Role
Purpose:
Conduct physiological laboratory and/or field assessments that utilizes the organization infrastructure to provide advice for athletes in rehabilitation, outpatients, and other internal clients. Manage the Altitude rooms providing physiology support to its users. Serves the Hospital’s aim of assisting athletes to achieve their maximal potential through improved performance and injury prevention.
Key Accountabilities &Activities:
- Responsible for regular equipment calibration and laboratory functioning in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and quality assurance requirements, plus first-line maintenance of equipment.
- Calibrate, troubleshoot, operate, and maintain testing equipment.
- Serve as a resource person for specialized skills in their area of expertise, providing support, consultation, and counselling to all levels of clinical practitioners.
- Manage the altitude rooms and deliver scientific support to athletes staying in altitude rooms for training camps.
- Review patient’s medical record for information pertinent to the reason for their visit.
- Interview patient for medical history pertinent to the reason for their visit and reconcile medications.
- Assess appropriateness of and contraindications to symptom-limited, maximal exercise testing and/ or other health assessments.
- Select, administer, and interpret tests to assess muscular strength and/or endurance.
- Evaluate and document exercise goals and motivations of the patient to design an individualized intervention.
- Determine the exercise prescription for exercise training based on the patient’s history, available data, and goals and discuss with the patient.
- Determine the appropriate level of supervision and monitoring needed to provide a safe exercise environment based on risk classification guidelines.
- Regularly evaluate the appropriateness of and modify, as needed, the intervention, based on the patient’s compliance, signs/symptoms, and physiological response to the exercise program.
- Follow accepted professional, ethical, and operation standards to optimize safety, reduce liability, and protect patient confidentiality.
- Inform patients of personal and safety procedures to minimize risk.
- Develop professional skills and knowledge, in line with existing and new services, through continuing education and training programs.
- Liaise with relevant clinical and non-clinical leaders to activate and deliver physiological services in Aspetar.
- Collaborate with the researchers on relevant research projects.
- Assume or accept any other responsibilities as assigned by the direct supervisor within the position role and responsibility.
- Patient Safety-Attend and successfully complete competencies which focus on patient safety initiatives implemented within Aspetar Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Hospital. Patient Safety Training is an annual requirement, to include all organizational leaders, staff, service, and contracted providers.
- Minimum 6 to 8 years of related experience of which a minimum of 2-3 years should be in similar position / responsibility, preferably in a similar Industry.
- Demonstrated experience in providing physiology testing to elite/professional athletes and sports clients.
- Bachelor’s degree in Physiology.
- PhD or Master’s degree in Sports Science / Human Movement / Biological Sciences / Physical Education / Kinesiology (or equivalent).
- Adequate certifications in Physiology.
- Fulfil all Physiology Licensing requirements.
- Technical skills in physiology (metabolic cart testing, field tests) and basic biochemistry (salivary tests, capillary tests).
- Professionally groomed to project a positive image.
- Desire to embrace a culture of excellence, collaboration, and communication.
- High proficiency in English language is mandatory. Arabic will be a definitive advantage.
