Regional HR Manager - EMEA onical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems for the global enterprise and technology markets. Canonical’s platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation and IoT initiatives. The company employs 1,200+ colleagues in 75+ countries with many roles being remote-first. Teams meet 2–4 times per year in person to align on strategy and execution.
The role is to lead Canonical's regional HR team for APAC with reporting to the Global Head of HR. You will help build the HR function for future growth, provide precise, compliant and scalable HR operations, advise on HR issues across the employee life-cycle, and partner with senior regional leadership. This position requires an analytical approach, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret data trends.
Responsibilities- Lead and scale Canonical's regional HR team
- Deliver precise and compliant HR operations in a timely manner with high accuracy
- Collaborate with the broader People team to create cohesive processes across regions
- Oversee HR processes such as talent development, succession planning, performance assessments, onboarding, culture and engagement initiatives that drive high-performing teams
- Work with senior managers on performance management, organizational design, employee engagement, rewards and workforce planning
- Coach and advise people managers on employee relations issues across multiple countries
- Partner with people managers to deliver appropriate training and development programs
- Establish a trusted partnership with the business in your region
- Drive diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
- Design new policies and deliver on business-critical HR projects globally
- Present Canonical's HR practices at Canonical events
- Exceptional academic track record from high school and university
- HR experience leading initiatives across regions within a technology business
- People management experience
- Experience partnering with senior stakeholders
- Hands-on involvement in daily HR routines, balancing leadership with execution
- Experience working in a remote-first organization
- Able to leverage data to make informed decisions
- Knowledge and practical implementation of HR practices and employment law across APAC
- Experience handling complex employee relations across multiple jurisdictions
- Fluent in business English (written and spoken)
- Self-motivated, organized, accurate, confident, authentic, results-oriented, open-minded, enthusiastic and energetic
- Willingness to travel up to 4 times per year for internal events
- Experience with immigration policies and mobility processes
- Professional HR qualification (CIPD/SHRM or similar)
- Facilitation skills
