Position: Systems Controller ( (Airport Operational System)

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end‑to‑end process of gathering and validating business objectives, functional specifications, data models, and technical architectures for complex airport operational systems.
  • Define and enforce architecture standards, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity frameworks, data governance, and MATAR IT strategic roadmaps.
  • Act as the technical authority for assigned Airport Operational Systems (AOS) and ensure consistent adherence to architectural principles.
  • Prepare functional, non‑functional, cyber‑security, data protection and technical specifications for SaaS and COTS systems/products from external suppliers for implementation.
  • Lead technical evaluations of vendor proposals, ensuring compliance with MATAR procurement standards, IT governance, and SLAs.
  • Provide technical oversight during vendor onboarding, solution design, data integration, and implementation stages.
  • Ensure third‑party vendors and suppliers maintain system reliability, perform preventive maintenance, and meet contractual performance indicators.
  • Lead root‑cause analysis (RCA) for high‑priority incidents and ensure implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure all changes follow the established change management process, risk assessments, and approval workflows.
  • Manage and oversee testing cycles (SIT, UAT, performance testing), training, and go‑live preparation for relevant projects.
  • Ensure deliverables comply with established IT frameworks, project management methodologies, and regulatory standards.
  • Provide subject‑matter expertise during implementation of new modules, integrations, interfaces, and upgrades.
  • Ensure high‑quality technical and operational documentation is produced and maintained, supporting audits, operations, and knowledge transfer.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate IT policies, ISO
    27001, ISO
    20000, cybersecurity guidelines, and MATAR’s enterprise IT standards.
  • Support audit activities, ensuring appropriate evidence, data, and change logs are available and compliant.
  • Contribute to knowledge building by mentoring junior staff in systems design, operational support, troubleshooting, and documentation practices.
  • Manage the delivery of subprojects, system enhancements, and minor releases—ensuring achievement of quality, cost, and timeline targets.
  • Prepare and present system status reports, operational dashboards, risk registers, and incident trends to line management.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, system optimization, and modernization to enhance airport operations.
  • Propose innovative solutions leveraging emerging technologies (AI/ML, IoT, cloud‑native services, automation).
  • This role is accountable for the operational management, reliability, performance, and strategic enhancement of Airport Operational Systems (AOS). The Systems Controller serves as the technical owner, ensuring systems meet business, operational, and regulatory requirements while driving continuous improvement and innovation across airport technology ecosystems.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent with minimum 5–7 years of progressive job‑related experience in enterprise IT environments, with direct experience managing mission‑critical operational systems.
  • Master’s Degree or professional certifications (ITIL, TOGAF, PMI‑PMP, AWS/Azure, CISSP) are an advantage.
  • Proven track record managing complex software implementation, integrations, upgrades, and system support in an enterprise or aviation environment.
  • Strong practical knowledge of software development life cycle (SDLC), modern system design principles, architectural patterns, and technical documentation standards.
  • Good understanding of:
    • Modern programming languages (e.g., Python, .NET, Java)
    • Web services, REST APIs, microservices, and cloud‑native architectures.
  • Understanding of airport operational systems (AOS), aviation processes, data elements, workflows, and operational constraints.
  • Experience with systems such as: AODB, RMS, FIDS, BHS.
  • Good knowledge of:
    • N‑Tier architecture and distributed systems
    • Client‑server and web application methodologies
    • IT service management (ITSM) based on ITIL
    • Incident, problem, and change management processes.
