Section Head – Data Governance Unit Role Summary
The Section Head – Data Governance Unit is responsible for leading and scaling the Bank’s enterprise data governance framework to ensure data quality, regulatory compliance, and effective data management practices across all business units.
This role plays a critical leadership function by aligning data governance with regulatory requirements, enabling advanced analytics and AI initiatives, and fostering a data-driven culture across the organization.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and enhance the enterprise data governance framework, policies, and standards across the Bank and its international branches
- Ensure alignment with Qatar Central Bank (QCB) regulations and other applicable regulatory requirements
- Define and monitor data quality KPIs to improve data accuracy, integrity, and consistency
- Partner with business and IT stakeholders to ensure robust data lineage, metadata management, and data cataloging practices
- Identify and mitigate data-related risks and ensure appropriate governance controls are in place
- Lead the Data Governance Council and drive accountability for data ownership and stewardship across business units
- Oversee the implementation, adoption, and optimization of data governance tools and platforms
- Align data governance initiatives with the Bank’s digital transformation and AI strategy
- Ensure governance of master data to maintain a single, trusted source of truth
- Drive the transition to a federated (hub-and-spoke) data governance model
- Lead organization-wide data literacy and awareness initiatives
- Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external audits related to data governance
- 15+ years of experience in data management, with at least 5 years in leading enterprise data governance within financial services
- Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, regulatory requirements, and data risk management
- Proven experience in driving enterprise-wide governance initiatives and operating model transformations
- Solid understanding of data architecture, data lineage, metadata, and data quality frameworks
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and engaging with senior stakeholders and executives
- Strong experience in audit management and regulatory reporting
- Master’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field
- Data governance certifications (e.g., CDMP, DAMA, DCAM) preferred
- Strong influencing and stakeholder management skills at senior and executive levels
- Proven ability to drive organizational change and build data-driven culture
- Ability to lead and develop high-performing data governance teams
- Strong strategic thinking combined with hands-on execution capability
